I first heard of a Russian exiled journalist Leonid Ragozin because of the controversy in Latvia over the decision to declare him persona non grata. I read his own column in The American Conservative. As an expert on disinformation and propaganda, my assessment is clear: Ragozin spreads pro-Kremlin disinformation to Western audiences. Whether intentionally or not, his work serves the Kremlin’s propaganda machine. That does not mean there is evidence that he is acting on the Kremlin’s orders.
With Russia waging war against Ukraine and posing a military threat to Latvia itself, I believe Latvia has every right to expel a propagandist. I have no objection to its decision. I say this as someone who has helped more than 1,000 Russian activists and journalists with evacuation, entry bans, visas, and humanitarian residence permits.
If someone asked me to help Ragozin, I would refuse — unless it was a matter of preventing his deportation to imprisonment in Russia. In my view, Latvia’s decision is justified and overdue.

Прочитал длинное интервью российского пропагандиста (неважно, за деньги или по глупости) «Медузе». Оно большое, и там примерно 500 вопросов о том, как его преследуют и какой он боец за правду. Про его жизненный путь и прочая хуета.
Знаете, какого вопроса нет?
Вопроса — почему он публично солгал о характере российских ударов по гражданским объектам и гражданским в Украине на протяжении четырёх лет войны. Это единственный вопрос, который имеет смысл. Это единственный вопрос, который должен интересовать нормального человека, берущего интервью.
Но нет. В гигантском интервью места для этого вопроса не нашлось. Нашлось место для того, чтобы спросить — а что же за кампания по его дискредитации идёт, нашлось место для того, чтобы спросить, что он чувствует в Латвии. И прочая никому нахуй не нужная ахинея.
А вот для такого простого вопроса места не нашлось. Не хватило времени, наверное.
Вопросы о том, как Рагозин относится к Латвии, что он чувствует и почему считает себя жертвой, — это, конечно, прекрасно. Но когда человек представляет себя борцом за объективную журналистику, одновременно публично представляя целенаправленные удары России по гражданским как исключения из общего правила, у журналиста должен возникнуть хотя бы один уточняющий вопрос. Не о чувствах, не о судьбе, не о его невероятно трудном жизненном пути. А о том, почему он лжет.
Также почему-то утверждение о том, что Рагозину что-то угрожает в России, остаётся без проверки. Но с чего бы? Вот мне сегодня ещё несколько лет к сроку накинули. А у Рагозина ни одного уголовного дела, даже административного, в списке иноагентов его тоже нет. Какая конкретно угроза для него существует? На чём основаны его утверждения? Может, журналисты «Медузы» обладают каким-то тайным знанием, но почему они не задают этот элементарный вопрос? Или опять все просто отмывают дружочка-пирожочка?
Вот так господин Рагозин говорил про российские удары на протяжении первых четырёх лет войны в своем недавнем интервью, отрывки из которого и стали последней каплей:
«Как общее правило, они наносили удары по военным и промышленным объектам и старались избегать гибели мирных жителей или избегать ударов по гражданским целям. Из этого было много исключений, и является предметом споров, были ли некоторые, например, многоэтажные жилые дома, поражённые российскими ракетами, действительно поражены российскими ракетами или, возможно, это были украинские ракеты ПВО. Я не эксперт, и для выяснения этого требуется криминалистическое расследование...»
Бомбардировка драмтеатра в Мариуполе, удар по вокзалу в Краматорске (не менее 58 погибших), удар по детской больнице «Охматдет», удар по жилому дому в Днепре (46 погибших), удар по жилому дому в Умани (23 погибших), удар по кафе в селе Гроза (59 погибших). В конце концов, «сафари на людей в Херсоне» — это то, что происходит уже очень долгое время. Российские дроноводы прицельно убивают гражданских людей в Херсоне и хвастаются этим в z-каналах, показывая кадры убийств жителей города. Об этом знает весь мир. Но господин Рагозин почему-то предпочитает рассказывать, как российская армия старается избегать ударов по гражданским.
И это лишь несколько примеров. Я могу долго перечислять. Я рассказывал про каждый из этих ударов и про кампанию по убийству гражданских. Сотни и тысячи убитых Россией людей — для Рагозина это всего лишь исключения из общего правила. Это тезис Путина и Минобороны РФ.
Рагозин не случайный человек, к которому на улице подошли и который не знает, как идёт эта война и как её ведёт Россия. Это человек, который считает себя экспертом и учит Украину и Европу — как им воевать и жить. Но нет вопросов об этом у «Медузы». Им это неинтересно.
Это же классный парень, которого все знают со времён посиделок в Москве.

You know, these well-meaning impulses along the lines of, “But this is suppression of free speech, even if you see these speakers as pro-Kremlin,” sound good and noble in a “normal” world, so to speak -- where everyone argues every day about every wild antic Donald Trump does, and does not mince words either about him or about their opponents.
Or where people break spears over taxes, immigration, gas prices, leaving the European Union, sex scandals, the next elections, the number of genders, school workloads, and the mystery of why using air conditioning at +35°C is unacceptable.
In our abnormal world, where one nuclear superpower is waging a war aimed at exterminating another country, all this “Ukraine & the West actually invaded Russia, they are all Nazis there, why help Ukraine, it is a fake country with no right to exist, Putin should have nuked it long ago” is not “free speech.”
It is the deliberate, malicious exploitation of the weak points of democratic institutions and modern mass-media technologies for the broadest possible dissemination of aggressive war propaganda and disinformation.
By defending the sacred right of the Völkischer Beobachter to call for the extermination of Jews, of Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines to call for the slaughter of Tutsis, and of a Russian network of influencers to professionally justify the war against Ukraine among Western audiences, one is not a champion of democracy.
One is a useful tool for totalitarian regimes that have no respect for this same “freedom of speech” at home and that themselves hand out prison sentences of up to 15 years simply for using the word “war.”
All the more so when these “persecutions of free speech” consist of the Republic of Latvia (oh the horror!!!), no longer considering it possible to provide legal residency status to one of the most repellent long-time distributors of the dumbest anti-Ukrainian and anti-Western propaganda and one of the apologists for and normalizers of Russia’s war, who -- after so many years of exercising his “freedom of speech” on the blood of other people, still had the nerve to make gloating statements on "Western aggression against Russia."
This is not “you simply disagree with his views,” and it is not “freedom of the press,” and it is certainly not “journalism.”
This is no joke and not a question of the “pluralism of opinions.” Behind it are rivers of human blood, tens and hundreds of thousands of people killed in an inhuman war, people who also wanted to live in peace and safety, but whose screams are drowned out by a curtain of total propaganda.
And there is no need to pretend that there is no clearly understandable line between good-faith criticism of Ukraine or the Ukrainian leadership and drowning the largest European war of aggression since WWII in an ocean of the stupidest disinformation, outright lies, wild conspiracy theories, pseudo-facts that have nothing to do with reality, and armies of bots and trolls.
The New York Times, for example, only recently once again published an extremely painful but necessary article exposing large-scale corruption abuses in the Ukrainian military.
And for some reason, it occurs to no sane person to place the authors of that article in the same category as mass purveyors of propaganda and disinformation who openly advocate Ukraine’s capitulation to Russian occupation while themselves preferring to remain warm and safe in the West -- using their “freedom of speech” in the service of dictatorial wars.

- XRING D100 — 3nm autonomous-driving-class chip. 20-core CPU + 16-core NPU, up to 160GB on a single die, enough to run a 200B+ model locally.
