Bamboo sheets are sold as the gentle alternative to cotton and silk, and the fabric they are made of is the one that put factory workers in asylums.
Bamboo cloth is not bamboo. It is viscose. The plant is pulped, dissolved in caustic soda and carbon disulphide, and squirted through a nozzle into acid, where it sets into a thread. It was patented in England in 1892 as artificial silk, and the trade name for it was rayon. The same process makes a kitchen sponge and the cellophane on a bunch of flowers.
Carbon disulphide was already notorious. French doctors in the 1850s had watched it send rubber workers blind, impotent and insane. The viscose industry needed it in enormous quantities and nothing else would do.
So from the 1920s the asylums began to fill. In 1933 a doctor at a Pennsylvania rayon plant wired Alice Hamilton, the first woman on the Harvard faculty and the country's authority on industrial poisons, with a 6-word message: an epidemic of insanity has broken out. Workers were going home and attacking their wives. Men in the churn rooms were found wandering the roads. Investigators who got inside found a third of the workforce showing signs of poisoning.
The companies fixed prices, sat on the evidence, and when the regulators finally came for them in the West they moved the factories to India, China and Indonesia, where the same chemical is used today. The consumer was never harmed. Only the people who made the cloth.
Silk is made by a caterpillar in a mulberry tree. Wool is made by a sheep in a field. Both are a protein, same as your own hair, and both have been pulled off the animal for 5,000 years without sending anybody out of his mind.
The fake silk needed a chemical that could not be made safe, and the industry's answer was to make it somewhere else.

So is the goal hard plaque now? Is that what we're aiming for?
Because apparently statins turn soft plaque in the arteries into hard plaque, and that's being sold as brilliant news. Another reason to take one. What a stroke of luck.
Soft plaque was the dangerous stuff because it might rupture. Hard plaque is the safe stuff because it has set like concrete. It's mostly still sitting in the artery taking up room, but it has calmed down, so everyone can relax.
And the calcium score going up? That used to be the warning sign. Now, on a statin, a rising calcium score means the drug is working. Isn't that convenient.
The LDL comes down on the blood test and everyone is thrilled. The number looks lovely. Whether the arteries are actually any better is a whole different question, but let's not spoil the moment.
As for what caused the plaque in the first place, insulin resistance, blood sugar, blood pressure, smoking, inflammation, poor sleep and years of stress, best not to ask. None of those come in a packet.
So soft plaque, take a statin. Hard plaque, take a statin. Calcium score up, the statin is working. LDL down, the statin is working.
Honestly, it's amazing. This drug just can't lose.

Kimi her işini Allah'a bırakır. Stresten ve vehimlerden uzak durur. Benim olan bana gelir der ve sabreder. Boğmaz ruhunu kötü giden şeyler için. Hayatı kendine zehir etmez ve verilen nimetleri görüp şükreder, basit şeylerle mutlu olur.

This what former French Economy Minister Thierry Breton said that has already came through pass :
"It was Emmanuel Macron's stupidity that opened the eyes of Africans. One thing is certain if France loses its colonies our children and grandchildren will go to Africa in search of their livelihoods. Immigration will change direction. Macron needs to go or France will suffer. Europe need to unite to fight this new African vision Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso and other countries will follow suit. If one of the puschists' heads falls, the others will abandon the vision. Africa has no history therefore, Africa cannot run the world.”

Hot one minute, freezing the next. Wide awake at 2am, running on empty by 3pm. Brain fog.
Sound familiar?
Menopause can touch every part of your well-being: physical, emotional, mental and social. Symptoms are different for every woman and can include hot flushes, broken sleep, mood changes, vaginal dryness, foggy thinking and low energy.
Start keeping a note of what you’re feeling and how it shows up in your day. It makes that conversation with your health provider so much easier.

On a beach in West Africa the fishermen now haul in more clothes than fish, and the clothes have your charity shop's label on them.
The beach is in Accra, the capital of Ghana. A mile inland is Kantamanto, the biggest second-hand clothes market on earth. Every week about 15 million garments arrive there in bales, from Britain, Canada, China and America. Most of what you drop in a clothing bank ends up on its way to a place like this.
The locals have a name for the trade. Obroni Wawu. It means dead white man's clothes, because nobody could imagine a living person giving away so much.
The traders open the bales and sort them. 40 years ago nearly everything sold. Now about 40% of every bale is rubbish before it leaves the market, because the garments were built to be worn 5 times. That is 6 million pieces of clothing a week with nowhere to go.
The city collects what it can. The rest goes into the gutters, the lagoon and the sea.
Then it comes back. The waves roll the clothes together into ropes of knotted polyester as long as a boat, and the beach monitors who count them have a word for those too. Tentacles. They logged 2,344 of them along 4 miles of shore in one year. Fishermen's nets come up full of trousers. Propellers foul on them. Men have had their canoes capsized by somebody's old leggings.
A fishing community cannot fish, because of what the rest of the world was too virtuous to throw in its own bin.
When those clothes were wool and cotton they would have rotted on that beach in a season. Instead they are becoming the coastline.

My heart goes out to the families of Corporal Shaw and Constable Rose, who lost their lives in the line of duty in Sligoville, St. Catherine. I extend my deepest condolences to their loved ones and the wider Jamaica Constabulary Force. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
I am praying for the 10-year-old girl who was shot during the incident and for the recovery of the injured police officer.
I have directed that planned operations against criminal targets be intensified, and we will review the situation at next week’s National Security Council meeting.
Those responsible for this violence, including anyone who helped plan or support it, must be brought to justice. We will continue to support our security forces as they work to protect the Jamaican people.
May the families of our fallen officers find strength and comfort during this difficult time.
