Mombasa, Kenya: Rwanda and Kenya today marked a significant milestone in their energy cooperation with the arrival of the MT Sea Wolf, carrying the Rwanda National Energy Company’s (RNEC) maiden cargo of 40,000 tonnes of refined petroleum products at the Kenya Pipeline Company’s Kipevu Oil Terminal 2 (KOT2). The arrival marks an important step in the shared vision of Rwanda and Kenya to strengthen energy security, regional cooperation and the resilience of petroleum supply chains within the region. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of State @zimuyenzi, on behalf of the Government of Rwanda, reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Kenya and advancing the broader vision of regional integration under the East African Community (EAC). He expressed optimism that the arrival of the MT Sea Wolf will pave the way for many more vessels, further strengthening cooperation between the two countries and contributing to shared prosperity and sustainable regional development. The milestone reflects the continued commitment of Rwanda and Kenya to leveraging regional partnerships to enhance energy security and support economic growth.

“I hear what is popular among young people these days: vibes. I have nothing against good vibes. Vibes are not just for young people. Even those of us who are older can enjoy them. But if we are going to enjoy the vibes, we must have something solid to stand on, please. Don’t invest in vibes, invest in the foundation where you can now vibe. Because if there is no foundation, it won’t last. We want things that are sustainable. We want to build a society that is resilient. You can’t built a society that is resilient on vibes. But a resilient society can vibe.” President Kagame, Chairman of the RPF | RPF Bureau Politique.

Minister @yusuf_murangwa, @MIGA VP Junaid Kamal Ahmad, and @WorldBank Regional VP Ndiamé Diop have coauthored a commentary in @Prosyn on reinventing development finance amid shrinking concessional funding and rising borrowing costs. They advocate for using policy-based guarantees and risk-sharing instruments to unlock private capital at scale, rather than relying solely on traditional concessional loans. Rwanda's €213 million guarantee-backed loan, which reduced borrowing costs by 300 basis points, exemplifies this approach. The broader lesson: innovative financing, paired with sound reforms, enables low-income countries to do more with less. Read the full piece tinyurl.com/433nze2x #InnovativeFinance

Minister @yusuf_murangwa is in Banjul, The Gambia, for the African Caucus meeting. Today, he joined a panel on "Strengthening Human Capital & Skills for a Future-Ready, Inclusive Workforce," making three key points: First, Africa must accelerate the shift to competency-based education, supported by strong partnerships between government, industry, and academia. Second, fiscal space and debt sustainability must reinforce, not compete with, investments in human capital. Concessional financing should be linked to verified labor-market outcomes (employment, wages, retention), not just enrollment numbers. Third, financing instruments must be explicitly tied to inclusion metrics categorized by gender, region, and income. Reaching underserved populations should be a condition of financing, not a hoped-for side effect.

Today, the Government of Rwanda and the Government of Kenya signed an MoU for the importation of refined petroleum products through the Northern Corridor. This will enable Rwanda to source its bulk petroleum products using Kenya's infrastructure for transportation and storage.

No Ebola cases in Rwanda or neighboring areas. The risk of transmission to Rwanda is low. With the epicenter still active, vigilance remains as usual
There are currently no cases in Rwanda and no active cases in areas bordering Rwanda. “Confronting historical responsibilities requires real courage, because it generates fierce opposition by those with a case to answer. You need a strong sense of humanity to see it through. President Macron, I want to commend you on both counts: courage and humanity. You acknowledged that France could have stopped the genocide, but did not. In response, I described your words as something more valuable than an apology: namely, the truth. This door was first opened by President Nicolas Sarkozy, and I wish to commend him today. The Genocide against the Tutsi was foreseeable, and in fact foreseen, and France was in a unique position to observe and to act. It took too long for France to come to terms with its role, causing additional pain. And on some points, we still have not found consensus. I fully understand the feelings of those survivors and advocates, who remain dissatisfied with the official record. But I believe that our common work has initiated a journey towards truth, which is irreversible. And France was not alone in falling short, far from it. Many other countries did so as well, but none has gone as far as France in setting the record straight and accepting its part in the tragedy.” President Kagame | Inauguration of Monument in Paris honouring the victims of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi.

Here’s is my full quote on Rwanda’s nuclear energy agenda, it was unfortunately chopped up to fit the writer’s storyline: “Rwanda is working with a variety of global partners to develop our civil nuclear capabilities. In addition to Russian company Rosatom, a world leader in construction of nuclear power plants, last week at the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit in Kigali, Rwanda signed an MoUs with the US Government, to advance civil nuclear cooperation between the two countries, as well as other agreements between Rwanda’s Atomic Energy Board and companies from the United States, South Africa and Austria. In Rwanda, feasibility studies for both the construction of a facility using SMR technology and establishing the Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology are ongoing. Historically, these kinds of projects have been financed by governments, but more recently multilateral development banks have started discussions around financing frameworks to expand access for emerging economies embarking on nuclear energy development.”
Rwanda has signed a nuclear cooperation deal with Russia focused on nuclear medicine, energy and scientific research. The move reflects Kigali’s broader strategy of working with multiple global partners amid shifting influence in Africa aje.news/3ucjhm
