In 2024, sitting inside the U.S. attorney's office in Honolulu, the former CEO of a defense contractor made a stunning confession to two FBI agents.
He alleged that was the ringleader of a massive pay-to-play operation, bribing senators with campaign contributions in exchange for government contracts.

I was there that day at NATO with AMB Burns. Our Allies stood with us that day shoulder to shoulder and in the days that followed as we together fought in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere. They were true to us then and we must return to being true to them too.

I don’t sleep in my bed anymore.
I fall asleep on a mattress in the bathroom. It is the safest place in my hotel room. Last night, just after 2 am, the sirens started again and I moved from the bathroom to the shelter.
Then Kyiv started shaking.
russia launched another massive attack, with ballistic and cruise missiles, and lots of jet-powered drones. Explosions were heard across the city.
Twelve people were killed. In Kyiv, a railway depot was deliberately struck. Seven people died there, six of them railway workers. In Boryspil, homes and businesses were hit. Children were among the injured.
In Odesa region, russia also struck the Orlivka border crossing with Romania.
These attacks are increasingly hitting the arteries that keep Ukraine moving: railways, businesses, logistics, border infrastructure.
I am tired. Sometimes scared. But I am not complaining. Kyiv is my mission. And knowing everything I know today, I would still choose no other diplomatic posting. I love this city and admire this country.
But the intensity of these attacks is becoming very difficult. People are exhausted. Cities are exhausted. The whole country is living under permanent stress.
For almost five years.
Ukraine does not need to be told to be resilient. Ukrainians have proven that every single day.
They need to be able to sleep.

Ukraine has reached a significant legal milestone in addressing conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV): a Russian POW has been tried in person and sentenced to the maximum 12-year prison term applicable under the relevant war-crimes provision.
The case is reportedly the first in Ukraine in which a Russian soldier was physically present in court to answer charges of wartime sexual violence.
The UN has so far documented 701 cases of CRSV by Russian forces and authorities since Russia’s full-scale invasion. Most of the victims are men. These figures represent only a fraction of the true scale of wartime sexual violence.
Finland strongly supports Ukraine’s efforts for approaching accountability. Finland also remains committed to the establishment and swift operationalization of the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine and the International Claims Commission for Ukraine.
Accountability is an important part of Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction, and also for the rules-based international order as a whole.

Scoop! - Reuters has seen the terms of reference for the Pentagon's troop review in NATO, which aims to decide how many forces will remain in Europe and where. Here are some key takeaways:
1) Moving fast: Hegseth will get at least four sets of options by Nov. 6. Options will include things like variations in the number of forces, locations of forces, speed of adjustments and the cost of adjustments.
2) By Sept. 18, Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby will get a key decision briefing from EUCOM's Gen. Grynkewich where they'll go over options for development.
3) The terms of reference says the review seeks to guarantee reliable U.S. access, basing and overflight rights, called ABO, in allied NATO nations. But they also they examine space, cyber and "intelligence architectures and infrastructure that enable U.S. global power projection," the document says.
4) The document says the Pentagon will seek to determine whether allies have a credible path to meet their NATO spending pledges and fill in gaps to NATO crisis forces — known as the NATO Force Model — after U.S. reductions were announced earlier this year.

From SHAPE spox Col Marty O'Donnell:
“In response to a Russian missile of currently unknown type that entered Polish airspace and later crashed into Polish territory ... 1/

He says two NATO F-16s, an A330 refuelling aircraft and a Polish Mi-24 helicopter were scrambled.
