A lot of founders for us to follow here at @UpstartsMediaCo!
Still reeling after last night’s celebration at the @NYSE with NYC founders who secured the Series A bag! 💰
Thanks to @Kalshi’s @mansourtarek_ and @UpstartsMediaCo’s @alexrkonrad for joining us for a fireside chat, and congrats to all the Series A founders!
Keep going, New York! 🚀

Series B and the B stands for “BIG.”
Big news for New York tech! NYC-based cloud cost management startup north.cloud (proud demo alum of our monthly NYC AI Demos series!) just raised $60 million in Series B funding.
@PeakspanCapital led with participation from @Litcapital, @Companyonvc, @Alpaca_Capital, Uncommon Denominator, @GaingelsVC, and @Mana_Ventures.

@TechNYC is exploding and only going to grow bigger. The valley companies such as @AnthropicAI and so. many others are taking on massive spaces. We saw this in 2003 when Google brought the engineers. The amount of talent pouring into NYC who are going to leave those companies and start the next great companies will be unprecedented combined with the compounding effects of the last 25 years.

One night, two very NYC scenes. 🗽🎬
While we celebrated founders at our Series A dinner downtown at the @NYSE, we also brought Tech:NYC community leaders together for an advance screening of “You Can See Everything,” Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s documentary following Elizabeth Holmes.
Huge thanks to New York’s own @A24 and @ScottBelsky for helping us bring tech and culture together!
Just now on the @NYSE floor: @Kalshi's @mansourtarek_ and Upstarts’ @alexrkonrad going deep at “Series A: A Series,” honoring NYC founders who recently raised their A.
Congrats to the founders, their funders, and the entire NYC tech ecosystem.
Let’s go!🗽
Tech:NYC's Decoded Futures program director Jenni Warren joined @WtChinatown Victoria Lee and @RobinHoodNYC Learning + Technology Fund’s Laina Vlasnik Yip at @edtechweek yesterday to discuss how New York is the applied AI capital of the world.
The numbers to back it up:
- 2,000+ AI-related companies
- AI-related job opportunities growing at twice the national rate
- More AI-skilled job postings than any other U.S. market
Jenni also made the case that people need time, support, and trust to actually apply AI in their work (AKA one of the goals of Decoded Futures).
NYC 🤝 Nonprofits 🤝 AI
.@SpeakerMenin says NYC can be pro-safety and pro-innovation. We agree, but the Council’s AI bills need to reflect that.
115 founders + investors signed our letter, but the concerns extend to businesses of all sizes. These bills need broader changes to keep companies building and growing here.

For 10 years, @LinkNYC (a Tech:NYC member!) has shown what ambitious urban technology can deliver: free connectivity for more than 20 million people across 3.5 billion Wi-Fi sessions. Continued investment will help keep New York connected and competitive. @NYCOfficeofTech #InvestInLinkNYC #LinkNYC10
Safer streets, more accessible transportation and support for workers should all be part of New York’s conversation about autonomous vehicles.
@TechNYC President & CEO @juliepsamuels spoke with @CrainsNewYork about those priorities and her work with @ABetterRoadFwd, a statewide coalition building support for autonomous vehicles and showing New Yorkers what the technology could offer their communities. crainsnewyork.com/politics-p…

Union Square Ventures’ @rebeccakaden and @mignano explain why NYC is poised to thrive as AI shifts from an infrastructure buildout into a deployment and application era:
1. Consumer-oriented talent
2. Cross-industry density
“One of our portfolio companies, Suno, they have offices in San Francisco, they have offices in Boston, but their biggest office is actually becoming New York City.”
“It’s strategically advantageous to maybe build around the market there and attract talent that is interested in consumer and other sort of non-pure enterprise or infra areas.”

In today's @Searchlight_NY op-ed, @TechNYC's @juliepsamuels looks at a Council bill that would penalize companies $25,000 per “instance” for deploying AI models lacking third-party validation, even when the model’s developer is responsible for obtaining it.

💡 @kalomarNYC knows what it’s like to sit on both sides of the table.
Before becoming Managing Partner at @M13Company, Karl spent years building and operating technology companies himself. It’s that experience that still shapes how he evaluates founders today.
“Operating is far more nuanced than a balance sheet,” Karl told us. “It requires real empathy for the founder’s journey, where day-to-day decisions ripple across the entire organization.”
For this month’s VC Spotlight, we caught up with Karl to discuss his path from founder to investor, what he looks for before the rest of the market catches on, where the AI stack is still underbuilt, why founders need to truly master their businesses, and much more (do you agree with his go-to NYC pizza slice?).
