Japan is preparing for prolonged disruptions to global oil supplies...
The government is introducing new legislation to diversify oil imports, subsidize higher transportation costs, insure tankers, and invest in alternative supply routes.
Keep in mind that Japan imports 94% of its crude oil from the Middle East, with 93% of those shipments passing through Hormuz.
In other words, Japan is preparing to pay more for energy just to secure its supply.
Japan is already drowning in debt, while rising inflation is pushing government bond yields higher.
Now the government is preparing for structurally higher energy costs.
Higher energy prices mean more inflation... Higher inflation means more pressure on Japanese yields.
And with debt exceeding 200% of GDP, Japan cannot afford significantly higher borrowing costs for long.
The longer Hormuz remains disrupted, the worse this dilemma becomes.
We don't own enough gold for what's coming.

Orez:
github.com/natew/orez
Orez makes using @zero__ms as easy as possible. It’s a backend in a box.
It now has three modes:
Vanilla - a complete real Zero setup with no config. Super easy setup. Admin UI. Etc.
WASM - same idea, but it has no native dependency at all. PGLite, Bedrock wasm SQLite. Fits in low memory.
Browser - yes, really. We stuffed Zero into a browser. Not sure what you could do with it 🤔 but it took a lot of tokens!

A VC told an 18 year old he could raise $2M for his side project.
He didn’t know that was possible. “I was like, this person must be kidding me. Like, there’s no way.”
He was still working at Cloudflare. The side project had just become one of the fastest growing repos on GitHub in 2024. VCs kept asking if he was raising. He kept saying no.
So he asked his boss, the CTO of Cloudflare. The answer: bootstrap, or raise from tier one. Never the middle.
Today that side project is Supermemory, a $50M AI memory startup.

The prompt was "look at this [x post*], what is that, go fetch all specs in the internet, use classcad.ai mcp, model it"
The result is live here → buerligons.io
It is fully parametric. The ASM uses mate & gear constraints.

robotics always looked like a closed shop to me. labs, hardware, expertise.
what @axisrobotics does instead: the sim runs in a browser tab, you do the manipulation tasks, nothing runs locally.
whether the sim data survives contact with real robots is the open question. but i like where this is going.

Insane, China just built a 3000km green wall thats visible from space 🤯
China has been geo-engineering its Taklamakan Desert for many decades now. In an effort to combat desertification.
It has now completed its entre engulfing of the Tarim Basin.
In late 2025 the 3,046-kilometer (1,892-mile) continuous "green belt" that completely encircles the Taklamakan Desert is complete.
This perimeter is designed to act as a massive containment buffer, pinning down shifting dunes and preventing the desert from swallowing up expanding farmland, roads, and cities.
To successfully grow plants in an environment that receives less than 11 millimeters of rain a year, China utilizes heavy machinery to level massive sand dunes before setting up checkerboard grass grids to anchor the sand.
They have deployed thousands of kilometers of advanced subterranean drip irrigation lines.
Additionally, localized eco-infrastructure projects, like the Tarim Desert Highway cutting right through the middle of the desert, and it's completely lined with millions of trees powered entirely by automated, solar-powered water pumps
I reckon that Chinas end goal here is to ultimately regenerate the entire Tarim Basin, even if it will take them 200+ years to do so.
Geo engineering at this scale is not so crazy when you think about it, we casually farm about 37% to 38% of all of earth's available land, this means that some form of heavy machinery will cross all of that land MULTIPLE times per year.
What's unique here, is turning something that's dry and "dead" into a vital part of the eco-system, and creating perhaps one of the largest man made carbon sinks of the future.

One phone setting could give you an hour of your day back.
This is Dr Sahar Yousef, a cognitive neuroscientist at UC Berkeley who's spent over 15 years studying how to improve focus, memory and productivity.
Sahar's work explores how modern habits often go against the way our brains naturally function and how small changes could help us concentrate better.
With distractions, brain fog and burnout becoming common struggles, this conversation explores what's happening to our attention and what we can do about it.
We discussed things like:
- Why research suggests we spend just 47 seconds focused on one work screen.
- The phone setting that could save you 7 hours a week.
- Why Sahar believes multitasking makes us less productive.
At one point, Sahar demonstrated a multitasking exercise that showed a 60% slowdown when switching between tasks.
She explains how constantly jumping between emails, meetings and notifications affects our focus, and why uninterrupted work matters.
For anyone who feels constantly busy but struggles to get their most important work done, this episode explores how understanding the brain could help us work more effectively.
Out now on all platforms ❤️👊🏾

I asked Claude why Linear was losing deals to Jira. It gave me eight reasons. We supplied no buyer interviews, call notes, or deal records.
With our win/loss skill, it said it couldn't know yet and showed what evidence to collect.
Much better.
