This man is a hero.
Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian captain of flydubai Flight 1073, fought back after being stabbed in the cockpit.
Despite being severely injured, he managed to unlock the cockpit door - allowing Israeli passengers and the Emirati crew to intervene and save all the passengers.
Together, their extraordinary courage saved 174 lives.
Indian. Israeli. Emirati.
Different nationalities. One extraordinary act of courage. ๐ฎ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ช
We wish Captain Machchhar a full and speedy recovery.

Millions of young British men and women are looking at the lives their parents were able to build and wondering whether they will ever have the same opportunities.
The answer for many is a resounding NO.
Buying a home has become vastly more difficult. Often impossible. Starting a family is increasingly expensive. Graduate jobs are fiercely competitive. Taxes are ludicrously high. Rent is outrageous. Public transport, particularly in London, is filthy and costs a bomb.
Modern Britain is not working for young Brits.
After encouraging millions of them to attend university, the state sends many of them into working life carrying enormous student loan balances. Then it charges them outrageous interest on top. Itโs a tax, a graduate tax.
It is a scam.
Restore Britain believes it is all fundamentally wrong. It is backwards.
Today we have announced, with a full policy document launch, that a Restore Britain Government will abolish interest on student loans for British nationals resident in the United Kingdom.
And importantly, our policy would apply not only to interest charged in the future, but also to interest already accrued.
We are not, YET, proposing that graduates shouldn't repay the cost of their education.
But government should not be making that mountain higher and higher through accumulated interest while our young people are trying to build their lives.
Every pound swallowed by that unnecessary debt servicing is money that cannot eventually go towards a house deposit, starting a business, raising children or building savings.
A fitting comparison for the wider country's debt, too.
This policy is part of something much bigger for Restore Britain.
Generational fairness.
We cannot leave young people a country in a worse state than the one handed to us.
That is why we have announced our newest policy.
Abolish student-loan interest.
Let repayments actually repay the debt.
Give young Brits a fighting chance to build something of their own.

55 years of inflation
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The 1971 $3.50 ticket admitted guests to the park only. Additional tickets were needed for each ride. Modern one-day tickets include unlimited access to rides and attractions. $3.50 in 1971 has the same buying power as about $28.50 today.

Thank you, @Plasma. The physical card has arrived. Code if anyone wants it: 8W5TEA
Alibaba's AliExpress was caught using users' audio systems to track them.
AliExpress wasn't recording users but instead playing a silent sound and measuring how users' specific devices processed it in order to fingerprint them.
But don't worry because Brave stops this.
I nearly joined this $999 scam model. Wow, this is unacceptable.
XPlace cuts cashback on 14 September. The $999 a year is not refundable
From that date:
- Credit Mode: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4% becomes 0.5 / 1 / 1.5 / 2%
- Cash Mode: no cashback at all, on every tier
- everything earned before that date stays claimable
- spending limits, fees and travel benefits stay as they are
Monthly caps also sit in the docs now: $10 / $40 / $100 / $250 by tier. There were none when I reviewed this card.
The terms cover all of it. Clause 6.1 lets them adjust fees, limits or benefits with 30 days notice, and 7.3 says there are no prorated refunds for unused subscription time.
So anyone who prepaid $999 for a year is paying for the old deal and spending on the new one. To earn that fee back you now need around $50K a year through the card instead of $25K.
Worth asking @xplaceapp directly: is there anything for annual members who bought in at the old rates?
Anyone here used the XPlace card?

Would like to remind you that in a multisig if you lose any of your public keys alongside a private key you are screwed. Yes, public keys. You can lose 1 private of 3 in a 2 of 3, but you cannot lose a single public key. Does anyone tell you this who recommends multisig? Rarely.
You can derive these public keys if you have all 3 private keys but if they are lost and you lose a public key, unless you made transactions and can recover your public keys from the blockchain, your funds are lost.
This is the scary story of the day: Coldcard, a Bitcoin-only wallet and one of the most trusted hardware wallets, has just been hacked. Apparently the seed generator from this software was too predictable.
More than $38M has been stolen due to a Coldcard wallet vulnerability.โ ๏ธ
Funds from around 500 wallets were transferred to wallet bc1qnk, totaling 594.48 $BTC ($38.2M).
Stay safe.

One feature I really enjoy on @Revolut is the one-time virtual card. Itโs very handy and makes me feel safe every time I use it. I havenโt seen this in any other neobanks. #neobank #cryptocard
