I donated 2M last year in a tech skill acquisition program. I also paid $300 per head for 5 persons to learn solidity, all in 2022.
Only one of the guys from the solidity course learnt the skill and works in web3 today. The skill acquisition program I sponsored in the South East, all the guys from the hood I told to register gave one excuse or the other. They’re still posting flags of multiple countries on their status.
Poverty is “an excuse” for yahoo, but not the cause. There are “yahoo boys” in China, India, US, Europe, UAE, Luxembourg, and so on. I’m not talking of Nigerians, I’m talking of locals who have proper offices for running this.
Fraud isn’t something you do so you can live from hand to mouth. Fraud is something you do to “hammer”.
If you want to survive, you get a low paying job, or learn a skill or find something doing. You’d make enough to survive, pay your rent and just stay decent. If you are doing fraud or crime, you’re chasing alpha.
Tech isn’t something you do so you can hammer. Tech is a career path like every other career. Many tech bros are not rich, they’re just comfortable.
If you want to reduce fraud, have an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. If businesses thrive, they create jobs and the standard of live goes up, so people don’t have to “hammer” to live a decent life. Even tech startups cannot thrive in a market of poor people. No matter the funding, they’d keep collapsing because no body has money to patronize them.
We cannot charity our way out of this problem. I learnt it myself the hard way. I no longer pay for any skill acquisition program for anyone. Go and learn on YouTube. My contribution to society now is to build successful businesses that can employ people.
