#Ethiopia, the scale of the #TPLF’s fall from every meaningful form of power has not yet been fully digested, even by those of us who have closely studied the party, its monopolization of political authority, and the extraordinary psychological control it exercised over society for decades.
Whatever residual political, organizational, or financial weight the TPLF may still retain, it is increasingly difficult to imagine that weight translating into a return to meaningful political or military control. Commanders are surrendering. Fighters are laying down their arms. Structures once considered immovable are unraveling with astonishing speed. Assumptions that shaped #Tigray’s politics for decades are collapsing almost in real time.
What is unfolding is not simply a military setback or another temporary reversal. It increasingly looks like the disintegration of an entire system of power.
The speed is extraordinary. The consequences will be historic.

I admit, I am slowly beginning to struggle to map it all out in my mind. A regional war of massive proportions.
With all eyes on the war in Ethiopia, the RSF stepped up its operations from Ethiopia this week. That included capturing the border area of the Kadalo mountains in eastern Blue Nile and launching drone attacks on mosques, state officials’ houses, fuel depots and military sites in the regional capital of Damazin.
But fighting may soon spread beyond Blue Nile. An RSF source and a source informed of the group’s operations told Mada Masr that RSF troops have been transported from Darfur to Addis Ababa, from where they will be sent north in preparation to open a new front in Gadarif. “The Eritrean army has participated with its full capacity and logistics.
Many Eritrean soldiers have been killed and captured. There is no doubt that the retaliation will be double. They will see what it means to enter the border of another country and fight alongside bandits."

Don't be surprised if an Ethiopian government, drunk on victory following the collapse of the TPLF, might start to assert its expansionist claims in a more forceful manner...
News: Abiy vows #Ethiopia will secure sea access, seeks stronger role in regional affairs
Addis Abeba - Prime Minister #Abiy_Ahmed (PhD), who was appointed by the House of Peoples’ Representatives to lead Ethiopia for the next five years, said Ethiopia will pursue access to a seaport as part of his government’s broader vision of building a new “Ethiopian civilization”, while asserting that the country should have a greater role in determining regional affairs.
Addressing the joint session of parliament as the new government was established, Abiy framed Ethiopia’s pursuit of sea access within what he described as a rapidly shifting geopolitical environment encompassing the Horn of Africa, the #Red_Sea, the #Persian_Gulf and the #Middle_East.
He said the government would build a defense force reflecting what he described as Ethiopia’s position and the changing regional and global environment, including developing the capacity to establish “air superiority” in the region.
