Interlocking We arrive with pieces of a life— a childhood still coloured by summer, the shape of a goodbye carried for years in the pocket of an ordinary day. Some colours fade with time. Others remain bright where love has left its mark. We lay them down one by one, not knowing what picture they might make. Then someone comes with a story we have never heard, and something in their telling stirs a memory we thought we had outgrown. A stranger's kindness. A hand held through a difficult hour. A lamp lit by someone who stayed. And slowly, the pieces move. A corner of my past meets something in your own— and suddenly, the picture shifts. What I thought was only sorrow finds a place beside your courage. And what I could not see in my own story begins to emerge beside yours. Perhaps this is how we become— not by finding every missing piece, but by discovering that our scattered stories can make room for one another. And there we are, not whole because nothing was ever broken, but changed by the quiet coming together of lives once separate. So, tell me— what picture might we make of all the pieces we bring to one another?

To us, they may be just ordinary words. But sometimes, those words can become a new start for someone else. And the person who sparked that beginning may never even know it. #vss365 #start #haiku

What two decades in markets changes. Fewer forecasts. Longer holding periods. Smaller positions in anything you cannot explain. Much more respect for cash. The fear stays exactly the same.

two years. thousands of pages. over a dozen drafts. that was the process of writing Half His Age. i'm so proud of this book and grateful for the way it has connected with all of you (YOU have made it a #1 international bestseller and #2 NYT bestseller - thank you.) i've gotten to travel the world on tour for this novel - belgium, london, paris, amsterdam - and seeing the kind of reader who resonates with it has been the best gift. you are MY PEOPLE. you are complex and smart and crave nuance and complicated characters. i've never really connected with people who want to escape in the things they consume. i've always connected with people who want to be moved by the things they consume. and that is all of you. i'm grateful to have brilliant readers who engage with material in such a deep and thoughtful way. I LOVE YOU.

“Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways.” - Sigmund Freud Sigmund Freud (1856–1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the pioneering founder of psychoanalysis, whose groundbreaking ideas reshaped how people understand the human mind and behavior. His theories explored the unconscious mind, the meaning of dreams, the influence of childhood experiences, and the psychological forces that shape human emotions and desires. Among his most influential works were The Interpretation of Dreams, Civilization and Its Discontents, and Beyond the Pleasure Principle, each challenging traditional beliefs about human nature. The final chapter of Freud’s life was marked by extraordinary hardship. As Nazi Germany expanded its power, Freud, who was Jewish, faced increasing persecution. Following the Nazi annexation of Austria in 1938, he fled Vienna with his family and sought refuge in London, assisted by friends and supporters. His writings had already been targeted in Nazi book burnings. Alongside these political dangers, Freud endured a devastating personal struggle with cancer of the mouth and jaw. For more than sixteen years, he underwent numerous painful operations and treatments that profoundly affected his ability to speak, eat, and live comfortably. Despite his declining health and the immense suffering he experienced, Freud remained devoted to understanding the complexities of the human mind. He continued writing and refining his theories, questioning established ideas about sexuality, morality, civilization, and the motivations behind human behavior. Even after relocating to London, he maintained his intellectual pursuits until his death in September 1939. Although many of Freud’s theories have since been challenged, revised, or rejected by modern psychology, his historical influence remains undeniable. His work transformed discussions surrounding mental health, inspired generations of thinkers, and left a lasting imprint on psychology, philosophy, literature, and popular culture. Freud’s legacy is not simply defined by the theories he introduced, but by his determination to explore the hidden dimensions of human thought, even while confronting persecution, illness, and the final years of his life.
