It’s not often we see a signal for blocking throughout winter this strong from the Met Office GLOSEA model.
Very early days but given El Niño / it’s impacts on broader global weather patterns, the potential for a blocked (and maybe cold?) winter is certainly raising an eyebrow or two.

A walk along the beach on a sunny autumnal morning does wonders for the mental health.

🚨NEWS: The BBC have removed a number of sketches by Mitchell & Webb as they are now deemed offensive
This sketch which features a Burqa and Blackface purposefully to make fun of how offended people get has now been ironically axed, because people may be offended.

This animated map shows a day of actual UK train movements, delays and all! On 19 August 2026 the network peaked at 1,794 trains moving at once. Even around 3am, at least 141 were running. Passenger services wind down, but freight and maintenance keep rolling. Source: buff.ly/0zrhl41

As we enter the last year of this privatised mess, I remembered this gem from BR from 1988
Around 5 years after it was shot, the BR would have its heart literally ripped out of it
The video has an 'end of a golden era' vibe about it.
When we used to be proud of our railway!

#OnThisDay 162 years ago the Isle of Wight Railway opened from Ryde (St John's Road) to Shanklin with intermediate stations at Brading and Sandown. In July 2020 a Class 483 ex-LT 1938 Stock sweeps into Shanklin and makes the unmistakable 'blowdown/shutdown' noise upon arrival.

A risk of some thunderstorms through C/E parts of England today. Here's an outlook from @MesocastUK.
No outlook from my side as laptop has decided to throw a fit.
TUE 23 JUN 2026 - mesocast.uk/forecast/?date=2…
Conditional risk of marginally severe with risk of isolated severe thunderstorms should LLJ and short-wave be robust enough to remove any capping in place. Nevertheless convergence is modelled today and UKV soundings suggest a few places could pop, as a result a conditional slight has been issued for the Midlands, parts of East Yorks. and esp. around Lincs./Wash - again orographical triggering could aid today too and so E Yorks. and Peak District could assist. Main hazards torrential downpours, locally intense lightning, medium hail 2-3cm, locally damaging wind gusts >45mph and the low chance of rotation or an isolated funnel or tornado.
