For more than 70 years, successive Canadian governments have held the position that a two-state solution is the way forward for long-term peace that also addresses Israel’s legitimate security concerns. Illegal settlements in the West Bank significantly undermine these objectives. Today, alongside the United Kingdom, France and a number of other international partners, Canada is supporting international law to protect the prospect of a two-state solution. In the coming months, we will introduce restrictions on trade in goods with settlements in the West Bank that are illegal under international law. Canada will continue to support work towards an enduring peace agreement that provides security and safety for Israelis and Palestinians alike. Heartbroken to hear about the fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad that claimed the lives of 14 newborns. I have contacted my counterpart @MIshaqDar50 to express our condolences. My thoughts are with the families who have tragically lost their newborns and with everyone affected by this tragedy.

Canada and Pakistan are working together to address security challenges and strengthen cooperation against cybercrimes. Interior Minister @mohsinnaqvic42 and I discussed practical ways to deepen cooperation on public safety and regional security. I also announced three new Canadian projects to strengthen Pakistan’s capacity to prevent and respond to terrorism. By investing in stronger institutions and partnerships, we are advancing the security of both our countries.

Canada and Pakistan have an opportunity to build a stronger economic partnership for the benefit of both our countries. Prime Minister @cmshehbaz and I discussed expanding trade and investment, strengthening commercial ties, and creating new opportunities for Canadian and Pakistani businesses. We also spoke about the close people to people ties between our countries, with over 300,000 Canadians with Pakistani origins.
