We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.
It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion.
In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding.
In the post below, we share more details about our new fund.

Germany has adopted the EU's 2030 and 2035 post-quantum dates in its new national guideline. The date that German boards should have in mind now is 31 December 2026.
On 12 October, the interior and digital ministries and the federal cybersecurity agency BSI published the guideline for administrations at every level of government, companies and critical-infrastructure operators. By 31 December, each of them should have a named owner with staff and budget, binding implementation plans with deadlines, a first cryptographic inventory and first migration steps under way.
In the EU roadmap, member states agreed to take first steps by then. Germany turned that into a list for every organization. The dates are recommendations, but their authors want them made as binding as possible by the end of the year. They asked the IT-Planungsrat, the federal-state IT council, and the critical-infrastructure partnership UP KRITIS to do that.
Section 30 of the BSI Act already requires most NIS2-regulated entities to include cryptography in their risk management, with measures that should meet the state of the art. For that standard, the BSI cites its own TR-02102, post-quantum schemes included. My reading is that a supervisor can ask today whether quantum risk is in an entity's risk register, with mitigation dates.
The Netherlands published its version a week earlier, for central government only, with a draft migration plan due by the end of 2027. Germany wants plans this year from companies and all three levels of government.

New from our STEM Fellows Program: Designing more efficient quantum circuits with Claude.
Given plain-language instructions, Claude Mythos 5 designed quantum circuits that improve on the best published ones, sometimes by an order of magnitude or more.
More efficient circuits reduce the resources needed by quantum algorithms, which could bring quantum computing applications in chemistry and materials science within reach sooner.

Quantum is poised to become a multi-trillion dollar industry in the next few years. We think New Yorkers should share in that profit.
That's why we negotiated that New Yorkers get board seats and a 15% stake of intellectual property that comes out of NYU's Quantum Fabrication facility.
Because all New Yorkers should benefit from the economic success of this city.
Breaking News: Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration is making a $30 million investment to build a quantum research lab at New York University. In exchange, the city will receive 15% of any proceeds from intellectual property developed in that lab. nyti.ms/4jUe7GD

This doesn't necessarily move Q-Day timelines forward, since magic state cultivation was already assumed in prior quantum resource estimates by @CraigGidney and others.
But it does experimentally validate one of the key assumption underlying those estimates, making them more credible.
In other words, Q-Day isn't necessarily getting closer, but our confidence should increase re: the timelines implied by those estimates.
Or put another way, a potential reason why quantum computing at scale *won't work* just got crossed off the list.
Published in Science today: Magic state cultivation works in practice on our Willow processor. We achieved a 40x error reduction, compared to without cultivation, and 99.99% fidelity. Learn how this addresses a critical resource bottleneck: goo.gle/4yr8V0H

$GOOGL says its Willow quantum chip can produce critical quantum resources called “magic states” at 99.99% fidelity while reducing their production cost by ~40x.
Really interesting seeing Google make quantum computing more reliable without simply adding more hardware which potentially brings useful quantum computers closer than I expected.
A significant step forward for quantum in the UK.
IonQ and the @Cambridge_Uni have opened the IonQ Quantum Innovation Centre at the Cavendish Laboratory’s new Ray Dolby Centre, creating a physical home for the University’s largest corporate research partnership.
The Centre brings together Cambridge researchers and IonQ specialists across nine inaugural projects, from scaling quantum computers to exploring applications in finance, engineering and cancer research. It will also house a 256-qubit Superion quantum computer and quantum network, providing infrastructure to advance research and technology development.
More than a research partnership, this is a long-term investment in the UK’s quantum future. By bringing together technology, infrastructure and scientific expertise, IonQ is helping build the capabilities, skills and opportunities needed to translate quantum science into real-world impact for researchers, start-ups and industry.

what if the trapped ions inside a quantum computer could do more than compute? researchers at duke quantum center just demonstrated a way to use an atomic ion to read information from a molecular ion, something that's ordinarily difficult to do. molecules have properties that could open up new possibilities for quantum sensing and computing, and this experiment shows one way to access them. ionq has a longstanding intellectual property relationship with duke, which makes this research especially interesting to follow. the bigger possibility is that trapped ion technology could eventually become a way to work with quantum systems beyond the atomic qubits we know today. arxiv.org/pdf/2610.07680v1

A new Harvard-led preprint reports a magic state factory for high-rate qLDPC codes. CCZ states at 10^-9 LER at a physical error rate of 10^-3. This is 10-40x lower space-time cost than state-of-the-art magic state generation methods.

The Pentagon has just announced a $350 million quantum computing package, combining approximately $200 million in DARPA funding with a conditional loan commitment of up to $150 million for PsiQuantum.
The announcement builds on the DARPA Stage C selections I covered earlier, connecting that evaluation with manufacturing finance and an effort to identify military applications for future quantum computers.
The proposed PsiQuantum financing would support test equipment, assembly and integration infrastructure, and advanced cryogenics. Alongside that, DARPA is organizing workshops to bring quantum-algorithm researchers together with prospective users.
I’ll be watching how those requirements connect with independently measured system performance. That is where these programs could give buyers something concrete to evaluate.
