ALT Western University Professor Martin Horak reaches into his family archive and shares a love story between his grandmother and political cartoonist František Bidlo in 1942. Bidlo was a veteran cartoonist for Czech left-wing newspapers; Greta was a young anti-fascist activist. They met during the Nazi occupation of Prague, and we are given a brief glimpse into their relationship through the letters and comic pages that Bidlo mailed to Greta expressing his undying love for her before he was arrested by the Gestapo. ALT Building a Creative Community: A Workshop on the Performing Arts in London 18 November 2023, 1 PM – 6:00 PM Weldon Library Community Room Western University Register to join us: https://www.eventbrite.ca/.../building-a-creative... Facebook: https://fb.me/e/1orESspzz The main purpose of our workshop, “Building a Creative Community,” is to inspire and cultivate dialogue amongst those in the performing arts community in London, with a keen eye towards the creation of multidisciplinary collaborations and the exchange of knowledge between groups on Western’s campus and in the City of London. We envision the field of “performance” in the broadest possible terms, and invite participation from those involved in music, dance, theatre, opera, spoken word poetry, storytelling, animation, media production, and more. We also want to hear from those who defy traditional separations between the artistic disciplines.
