This is one reason why the attack on empathy is so evil. If we have to wait for person after person to experience the brutality of this administration before we wake up, then we'll inflict an immense amount of pain on our country. But if, instead, we could place ourselves in the shoes of the immigrant in chains, then we can see the injustice more plainly.
And no, this does not mean that we can't or shouldn't deport illegal immigrants when appropriate. It doesn't mean we must have open borders. But we can't lose our own humanity and decency in the process, and we must not use brutality as an instrument of enforcement.

He also pushed for me to get fired at MSNBC…why? Because he disagreed with me on some topics? #BigBaby By the way, unlike Ruffalo, I have actually done specials on Clean Water, and I have actually GONE to war zones and covered them and, for a living, I don’t just memorize what others write :) Finally, I asked Ruffalo to meet me for coffee and talk and he never responded. #ScaredyCat :) As for great humanitarian…I have yet to see him at an earthquake disaster (I have been to many) or tornados (I have been to many.) BTW, I never say Mark in Israel right after Oct 7 when I was there nor did I see him at a screening of the Hamas 47 minute tape where they brag about killing and raping.
.@MarkRuffalo worked with @BernieSanders & me to stop the war in Yemen & pass the first War Powers Resolution in American history.
Mark has stood up for clean water & a livable climate.
Mark has called out the genocide in Gaza.
Smearing him as an antisemite is ignorance.

Thank you, @HillaryClinton. We are against a lot of the decisions the Netanyahu government is making and we are for @Israel. Why do so many have trouble separating the two? They do it all the time as to other countries, including our own.

Fun fact! When you call me a “Zio,” that is a slur invented by David Duke.
Bonus fun fact: David Duke agrees with everything the progressives say about Israel. He was saying it in the 90s. You’d think that would give them pause, but alas.

Mark, nobody is arguing that criticizing a merger or a military contract is inherently antisemitic.
The question is why a debate about a business merger became a denigration of Israel and the political loyalties of the Jewish businessman involved.
You could have made an argument exclusively about media consolidation, jobs, editorial independence, foreign investment, or national security. Instead, you dragged Israel and Jews into it.
“I have Jewish friends” isn’t the defense you think it is.
The issue isn’t whether you harbor hatred for Jews in your heart. It’s whether you recognize the very old pattern you’re invoking when Jews, their money, their influence, their loyalties, and Israel somehow become interconnected explanations for everything you hate.

NO to the two-state solution. That ship sailed, hit an iceberg, and sank a long time ago.
And from a Jewish perspective, I’m tired of being told that Jewish safety has to depend on giving the Palestinian national movement one more chance to prove it can coexist with us.
Not every national movement automatically earns a state. The Kurds have a powerful claim to self-determination after generations of persecution, yet somehow Palestinian statehood is treated as an international obligation no matter how many times violence, rejectionism, and failed leadership follow.
At some point, “try again” becomes insanity.
I keep seeing Jews praise Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib as a “radical pragmatist.” He condemns Hamas, which is good. He criticizes Israel, which naturally gets him plenty of attention. His bio describes him as “pro-Palestine & anti-Hamas/violence, pro-peace/coexistence.”
Okay. Let’s unpack that.
Pro-Palestine. What exactly does Palestine mean here? A Palestinian culture and people? Fine. But if it means another sovereign Palestinian state alongside Israel, then we’re still discussing the same political objective. The method may be different, but the destination remains Palestinian statehood.
Anti-Hamas. Good. But after October 7 and after what Hamas has done to Gazans themselves, opposing Hamas should be the starting point, not some extraordinary act of courage deserving a blank check on everything else.
Anti-violence. Again, good. But violence has repeatedly brought Palestinians devastation rather than independence. Israel survived every attempt to destroy it. A pragmatist should understand that better than anyone.
Pro-peace. Wonderful. Every Jew I know wants peace. But what does “peace” actually require? Israeli concessions? Ending military operations regardless of the security situation? Another agreement based on promises that the next generation won’t pick up where the last one left off?
Jews have heard promises of peace before. Forgive us if Jewish survival requires more than promises.
And then there’s coexistence.
Israel already contains Jews from every corner of the diaspora alongside Muslim and Christian Arabs, Druze, Bedouins and others. It isn’t perfect because no country is, but coexistence isn’t some theoretical idea Israelis have never attempted.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian national movement has left a very complicated history with its neighbors: Black September in Jordan, the PLO’s role in Lebanon’s turmoil and war, Arafat’s disastrous support for Saddam Hussein after Iraq invaded Kuwait, and ultimately the collapse of the Oslo dream into another era of bloodshed.
So why is Israel always expected to be the laboratory for the next experiment?
Jewish history has taught us something rather important: when someone tells you their political ambitions require putting Jewish lives at risk, believe the risk.
Before Israel is asked to gamble Jewish lives on another promise that this time will be different, let Palestinian society demonstrate peaceful, functional self-government and coexistence somewhere other than against the people it has spent generations calling its enemy.
Israel does not owe anyone a suicide pact disguised as optimism.
For two thousand years Jews prayed toward Jerusalem while empires came and went. We finally returned to sovereignty in our ancestral homeland. Protecting that sovereignty and Jewish life is not extremism. It is one of the hardest lessons Jewish history ever taught us.
You don’t reward the threat of violence with sovereignty.

Sharon is right. Ruffalo’s rant checks every box: Jewish billionaires, Israel, secret military technology and control of the media. That isn’t merger criticism. It’s antisemitic conspiracy bingo—and somehow he filled the whole card.

Paramount just issued a lengthy statement responding to @MarkRuffalo:
"We are, as always, troubled when antisemitic tropes are invoked in purported service of a business dispute. Words like ‘genocide’ and ‘apartheid,’ applied to a corporate transaction, aren’t just wrong — they’re a bridge too far, and they cheapen the very real suffering those words are meant to describe. This doesn't deserve a response in kind — and to be clear, we don’t tolerate prejudice of any kind, against anyone.
This brings us to a moment to lower the temperature, not raise it. We’d rather build than further engage in such rhetoric. This simply exposes the true motivation of some who have advocated opposition to this transaction. On the other hand, our commitment to great content is matched by our commitment to acceptance - to every story, every storyteller, and no blacklists, no exceptions, for anyone.
We understand people feel strongly about this merger and are hopeful and expect that it will be judged based on the legal merits, not underlying bias. We’re asking for the same good faith we’re extending: less rhetoric, more understanding. Paramount’s future is being written for everyone who wants to make and watch great stories."

The most extreme expression of unrepentant antisemitism in American politics is Dan Bilzerian, who has drawn far less public opprobrium than he deserves.
Discarding the usual code words such as “Zionists,” Bilzerian scapegoats Jews by name, openly declaring: “It is not red against blue. It is us against Jew.”
When he is not trafficking in Holocaust denial, he releases AI-generated campaign videos suggesting that our view of Hitler—whom he whitewashes as an “Austrian painter”—should be “revisited.”
What distinguishes Dan Bilzerian from others who share his pathological preoccupation with the Jewish people and the Jewish state? His conspiratorial Jew-hatred is unfiltered by euphemism. He makes no attempt to hide it. He flaunts it. For he is proud of it.
The rest of us should be ashamed.

She’s an American citizen so I disagree with the deportation thing. But I don’t know why anyone would want their kid to be taught by this woman, why U Chicago employs her, or why she wants to stay in a country she so clearly detests (at least performatively).
I think the most annoying thing about these people — not the worst thing in a moral/intellectual sense, just the most annoying thing — is how cliched and boring they are to anyone who knows anything about this stuff. These are not edgy, new, exciting positions. This crap was in the streets and sitting in crumbled pamphlets in coffee houses in the 1960s, 1930s, heck in the 1890s. It’s just weak-minded radical cosplay for people who think incanting stale ideas makes you transgressive and cool if your audience already agrees with you or if they’re even more ignorant than you. She’s just an academic version of Hasan Piker and no more impressive.
