Wind and solar generation is scaling faster than any other electricity sources in history.
This is the time it took for different technologies to grow from 100 TWh to 1,000 TWh of annual electricity generation.
✅ Solar took just 8 years
✅ Wind took 12 years
✅ By comparison, gas took 28 years and coal 32 years
And look to the world’s biggest nations: India 🇮🇳 in 2026 became the second largest solar market in the world and the third largest renewable nation. In China 🇨🇳 this year for the first time installed solar capacity passed coal capacity. True milestones!
Yet another piece of great news: The price of battery tehcnoloy is falling at a pace similar to the fall in price which made solar and wind so competitive.
The drive to renewables is supercharged by the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.
Only the most stubborn fossil fuel advocated can be in doubt - humanity is in the midts of the leap from the age of fossils to the age of solar and wind. How wonderful!

People keep saying we’re “adding” clean energy, not transitioning.
They’re counting primary energy. 2/3 of it is wasted as heat. It’s a measure of combustion not of what we need.
Global averages hide a transition already well underway.

NEW RECORD: 692 GW of renewables were added globally in 2025, more than ever before.
Asia built 74% of 2025's new capacity. But look at the growth rates. Middle East +28.9%, Africa +15.9%, its fastest year ever.

WOW!! Yesterday (longest day of 2026) Wind, Water, and Solar power supply in California exceeded demand for nearly 10.5 hours and supplied more than 80% of the 24-hour demand!!
Clean energy is powering one of the world’s largest and fastest growing economies, and it’s not slowing down!

Global energy spending is on track to reach $3.4 trillion in 2026
Around $2.2 trillion of this is set to go to grids, storage, low-emissions fuels, nuclear, renewables, efficiency & electrification
And about $1.2 trillion goes to oil, natural gas & coal: iea.li/49shkHA

In 2020, EVs made up just 4% of all car sales globally.
Their share rose to 25% in 2025 – and is set to grow close to 30% this year.
And by 2035, even without any new policy announcements, EVs could account for about half of global car sales 👉 iea.li/4tQLcEF

In 2014, 1% of global electricity generation came from solar power. Today, solar accounts for more than 8.8% of the electricity generated. It’s the fastest-growing source of electricity, thanks to policy alignment and financial mechanisms that accelerated cost declines. bit.ly/3PSUIcB

How we prompt AI is very different in 2026 than 2022 when ChatGPT came out.
I'm teaching a new course, AI Prompting for Everyone, to help you become an AI power user — whatever your current skill level.
It covers skills that apply across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and other AI tools. How to use deep research mode for well-researched reports on complex questions. How to give AI the right context, including more documents and images than most people realize you can provide. When to ask AI to think hard for several minutes on important decisions like what car to buy, what to study, or what job to take. And how to use AI to generate images, analyze data, and build simple games and websites.
I also cover intuitions about how these models work under the hood, so you know when to trust an answer and when not to.
Along the way, you'll see flying squirrels, a creativity test, some of my old family photos, and fireworks.

Global sales of combustion engine cars peaked in 2017—
To decarbonize road transport, the world must move away from petrol and diesel cars towards electric vehicles and other forms of low-carbon transport.
This transition has already started. In fact, global sales of combustion engine cars are well past their peak and are now falling.
As you can see in the chart, global sales peaked in 2017. This is calculated based on data from the International Energy Agency. Bloomberg New Energy Finance also estimated this peak occurred around that time.
Sales of electric cars, on the other hand, are growing quickly. They more than doubled in the three years from 2022 to 2025.

ALT Stacked bar chart of annual global car sales (non-electric and electric) from 2010 to 2025 where non-electric (combustion engine) sales peaked in 2017 and then declined while electric car sales rise and form a growing share of total sales by 2024 to 2025. California is beating its own climate goals ahead of schedule:
✅ Two-thirds of the state grid powered by clean energy
✅ More than 2.5M electric vehicles
✅ 201K public chargers (more than gas nozzles)
✅ 17,000 MW of battery storage (2nd only to China)
The cynics said it couldn't be done.
