After meeting with UPS Teamsters in Miami Gardens, Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman visited UNFI Teamsters in Pompano Beach, Florida. O’Brien and Zuckerman spoke with hundreds of drivers and warehouse workers at one of the nation’s largest food distributors. UNFI is the primary distributer for Amazon-owned Whole Foods. Since 2022, 3,500 UNFI workers have organized with the Teamsters, growing total Teamsters membership at the company to more than 5,500 nationwide. Over 300 workers at UNFI’s Pompano Beach facility have voted to join the Teamsters over the past two years. This spring, the warehouse workers ratified a strong first contract that included a 31 percent wage increase, Teamsters health care, and pension. “Workers at UNFI in Pompano Beach organized and won a life-changing first contract,” O’Brien said. “Thousands of other newly organized UNFI workers across the country have secured the same, and the Teamsters are not slowing down until every worker at this company has the wages, benefits, and protections that can only be achieved with a strong Teamsters contract.”

When 3 UPS drivers in Dallas suffered serious heat-related incidents in 3 days this summer, management refused to respond or help. In Texas and across the country, Teamsters are fighting back to ensure that UPS delivers on contractually promised heat protections. By enforcing the contract, heat-related injuries at UPS have already significantly declined. We must do everything in our power to ensure all 340,000 UPS Teamsters are safe from extreme heat.
