ARTICLE SPOTLIGHT: This week, we showcase an essay by professor @syeducation, on myths about Open Science.
Drawing from his field of psychology, he identifies three persistent arguments (or myths).
First is the myth that Open Science conflicts with global and ethnic diversity,

It’s a Festivus miracle, a new blog post! My airing of grievances this year pertain to some academics' widely-held wrong beliefs, including the disparagement of “more of a comment than a question,” GRExit, “leaving academia,” and more! getsyeducated.substack.com/p…
New preprint! How often do editors/reviewers actually compare preregistrations to the reporting in the article? Almost never. This figure sums up all of the results. Not good.

ALT A two-panel figure showing the rate at which editors/reviewers mention the preregistration in their reviews, indicate accessing the prereg, and directly compare the prereg to the paper. The left panel is at the article-level and shows percentages of 43, 14, and 10, respectively. The right panel is the editor/reviewer level and shows percentages of 18, 5, and 3, respectively. These are very low levels.

A very nice summary of the issues!
As a researcher from non-WEIRD country, I feel it important to empower non-weird researchers. This task is hard b/c researchers are embedded in their own society, which is constrained by many non-academic factors in the first place.

Research on "resilience" has long suffered from a lack of attention to societal structures.
Our new paper, "Integrating Systems of Power and Privilege in the Study of Resilience," has now been accepted at American Psychologist.

Yes... I had to censor my work without which my committee wouldn't sign it... But the great thing with Internet is that you can post the original version and even add a disclaimer explaining why it differs from the published version…
