ALT Heading: MaxFunHQ supports the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes Subheading: And we bet you do, too. Text: You've probably seen some of your favorite MaxFun hosts posting from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA picket lines. Many of the folks who create the podcasts you love also help create the movies and TV shows you love, and—like everyone currently striking—they deserve to be compensated fairly for their work. We've been sharing resources about how to support the strikes with each other at HQ, and we wanted to share them with you, too. Footer: Swipe for tips and resources for supporting the strike
ALT Heading: How to support the strikes Subheading: Do this stuff! Text: Donate to the Entertainment Community Fund. The Fund offers financial and emotional support to entertainment workers nationwide who could use some help. Voice your support on social media. Both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA websites have social media tools available if you need graphics or inspiration. Join a picket line. You do not have to be a member of SAG-AFTRA or the WGA to picket. Both unions have up-to-date picket schedules and info on their sites.
ALT Heading: How to support the strikes Subheading: Don't do this stuff! Text: Don’t do any work for struck companies Even if you’re not a union member—working for struck companies undermines the strike and bars you from ever joining the union. No need to boycott streaming service or theatres. Unions have not yet called for any boycotts; wait to see if they call for one before cancelling all your subscriptions. Don’t listen to anti-union propaganda. The unions are striking to ensure that acting and writing are viable careers. The struck companies could end the strike at any time by agreeing to treat them fairly.
ALT Heading: Helpful links & resources Text: Get strike information directly from the unions themselves. Find out more about why this strike is so important, what’s at stake, what the unions are asking for, and how you can help: wgacontract2023.org. sagaftrastrike.org. ALT A screenshot of an interview with a Spotify exec, which says: "...Part of the reason for the layoffs and the org change is the macroclimate in technology. Basically, funding and money was incredibly cheap for a very long time. People are now complaining that technology companies were exuberant. The other way to say it is that when money was cheap, it made all the sense in the world to be very aggressive and grab as many opportunities as possible. So we did. We got to half a billion users and we were number one in music and podcasts, and so forth. The world has changed and that's not true anymore. Money and capital is very expensive. Spotify has to change like everyone else."
