This is an attack on press freedom and a violation of journalists' rights. @tongamrina 's newsroom has been among the few to highlight the ongoing protests against the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project.

#Imp: As much as the right-wing trolls would love to see a controversy here and mislead people, Justice Kaul is right:
1. This was at a private function.
2. Justice Kaul was a private citizen, having retired two years before that.
3. No question of mentoring—I’ve been in touch with 100s of lawyers, judges, and ex-judges since my reporting years.
4. “Taper it down” is an advice I have gotten from literally EVERYONE who loves and/or supports my work lol. Justice Kaul was kind enough to also speak his mind with me. And that is exactly how it should be!
5. The issue here is not about who was photographed with whom. The issue here is the grave revelations by Justice Kaul that paint a very dark and dangerous state of our judiciary, proving institutional capture. Rest is all a DISTRACTION.
The photo with Saurav Das @SauravDassss was when he had nothing to do with politics and I was a private citizen. Is this how things will be determined: Justice Kaul.
Govt has the right to not be troubled by the #protests. Couldn’t agree more.
It is appalling that even educated Indians, including senior constitutional lawyers, are unaware that just as citizens have a right to protest, the govt has an equal and opposite right to not be troubled by protests. Hence the need for alternatives to Jantar Mantar, i write, with concrete suggestions.

Look at the dust and pollution along this stretch from RK Puram to Munirka due to road construction. This is on Swami Vivekanand Marg, and the dust has been hanging in the air for over a week now. I have never seen a dust haze this thick. @MCD_Delhi @gupta_rekha

Dussehra night saw Delhi’s PM 2.5 levels nearly double, peaking at 180 µg/m³ at 2–3 am, as effigies burned between 6 pm - 11 pm. The analysis shows how firecrackers, fires & calm winds added to the pollution burden, with fine particles lingering well into the next day. Parents and citizens have been flagging these violations for years. Celebrations cannot come at the cost of our children’s lungs.
Why doesn’t @MoHFW_INDIA speak up on this attack on health of citizens?
Hour-by-hour readings show pollution in Delhi started surging on Tuesday evening, as Dussehra effigies burned, while the two previous nights of similar weather produced no such spike. A similar surge may come in the weeks ahead as Diwali approaches. The burning of firecrackers may be allowed more widely this year, going by the Supreme Court’s observations earlier this month

Even citizens could see Delhi’s air deteriorating. Yet hundreds of runners were made to participate in a marathon, risking their lungs. We kindly ask the government to issue timely health advisories, assess air quality before mass sporting events, and put clear protocols in place to postpone or cancel events when pollution poses a health risk. Of course, the easier way out is to clean the air💙

Yeah, independent journalism is apparently engagement farming but screaming about choodi jihad, thook jihad and ‘LOOK, LOOK! A Muslim man is praying quietly in a corner!’ is Pulitzer prize winning journalism. Gazab standards.
So sweet 🦴
Just as it is wrong for protesters to abuse and attack journalists, journalists heckling the leaders of a protest movement is a breach of the very same professional responsibility.
Our job as reporters is to listen, ask questions and report on the story — not become active participants in it. Journalists resorting to theatre and abuse during press conferences is plain wrong and unacceptable.
Report on the story. Don’t become the story.

Legacy news orgs, deeply entrenched in the corporate-political nexus destroying India, are telling us JOURNALISM IS NOT A CRIME.
When their moral corruption alone has discredited journalism. Journalistic integrity means a firm belief in Freedom of Expression for ALL, ALWAYS.

The problem is with the mic. I am sure most do not know her work.
It’s completely wrong to do this to any reporter. But when protesters do this to @Vasudha156 one of the finest & fairest reporters in the country it is not just wrong but ridiculously unfair.

While it's unfortunate that ground reporters from TV are being heckled and Godi Media slogans are being used... But now I see primetime anchors speaking for these reporters.. please understand, these reporters are being heckled because you are a sold out anchor and it's because of your journalism that ground reporters are facing so much trouble
Is there a room to question the editors?
I agree that journalists have the right to report, and the public have the right to protest.
The anger is stemming from the fact that several journalists or rather their organisations, do not support the right to protest, and instead have systematically villainised the protestors.
Yes, we can condemn the heckling. We can ask the protesters to stop behaving like this.
At the same time, I hope these reporters (and many of them seniors) are coming back to their Newsrooms and strongly asking why they should bear the brunt for all editorial decisions and why things are not changing

Reporters today are sadly paying for what editors like him have enabled for a decade. Heckling or attacking is disgusting but so is lack of support for non Godi journos beaten by the police. Expecting neutrality now is absurd. Nor is right to report, conditional. @rahulkanwal
