This is why I’m thinking of straying away from @Shopify. They recently changed how they handle chargebacks and we have lost like every single one since. I’ve also never had so many chargebacks since opening up, than I have within the last year. I’m sitting in 4 totaling over $4500. Thankfully 2 were pre orders(btw it’s fraud if you open chargebacks on pre orders with a defined shipping date), the other 2 we recovered the items before they reached the scammers.
I had a customer essentially do this exact same thing with 2 of their packages, as this guys chargeback. You could clearly tell they opened it, put books inside, retaped it, and tried to scam us. We use special tape which sort of helps with knowing ours were tampered. They won one, but lost the other case. Yet both were the exact same for both of their packages. We submitted the same exact evidence photos and everything. Weird how one is lost and the other won.
I recommend filing an IC3 with the FBI for ALL chargebacks. These people get away with it too easily because no one does anything. Stores just chalk it up and call it a day. IMO that’s just enabling them to do it more.

Sadly the bigger you get the more this happens.
Here is some things we do;
Every order over X amount (this depends on how comfortable you are) you should check the address, who lives there and ask for a form of ID
Billing and shipping should match.
Unfortunately our government doesn’t really care about chargebacks, nor to the banks or credit card companies.
You WILL lose chargebacks, consider it part of the business like stolen product if you had a storefront.
Now first thing you need to do is, email the customer and give them a chance. Now IF you lose the chargeback, file a police report AND file a fraud case with USPS.
Again best thing you can do is get a CPA and write it off on taxes under losses 🤦🏻

I have worked so hard to make this business a place people can come to get genuine Pokemon products and connect with other fans of the franchise.
This chargeback effectively nulls my progress and hamstrings my business. I don't know where to go from here. We will fight it and hopefully evidence proves us successful

This is what most of y’all don’t get to see — the absolute headache of dealing with situations like these.
For small shops like @PokeTrackerGG and myself, $3000 is a large sum of capital.
I know the story because Grayson and I speak often — it was clearly evident that the customer lied. The issue is that it’s a BATTLE to win these disputes, even when you have clear evidence.
Go show him some love next chance you get — he’s a great guy.
Someone just stole $3000 from me.
