Honouring all Residential school survivors & their families today…and every day. Much gratitude to Phyllis Webstad for sharing her story & starting Orange Shirt Day🫶🏽
Engage students in a conversation about how they want to be together. Build criteria for what makes powerful learning. As a learning experience unfolds, invite them to stop & notice the learning. Refine criteria. Invite them to set stretch goals & find evidence of meeting goals👍

When teachers complained to Ted Sizer about a kid, he’d gently reframe by asking “What does this student need from you?”

A book for all to learn from and a movie that will wrap the conversation around us all. 🙏🫠☑️💌 – at Sidney, British Columbia
I am thrilled to finally be able to share that, since 2020, I’ve had the honor of working with the incredible team at Pixar on *Inside Out 2*. Riley’s 13 - a teenager now! - and bubbling with complex new emotions. There’s much more to come! #InsideOut2 hits theaters on June 14.
Standing up for what is right and just takes incredible courage and vast amounts of time. I am so sorry you have experienced treacherous tactics. Personal interest drivers unfortunately cause people to stoop low. Truth prevails at great personal cost. Bravo for righting wrongs💫 – at Capital F, British Columbia

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. We encourage you to take a pause and reflect on what you are doing in your school to fight discrimination.
I love to see & hear learners collaboratively analyzing work for evidence of powerful learning. When they set personal goals based on findings & monitor their work as it unfolds, everyone feels the fire of motivation. Hearing evidence distributes and extends everyone’s learning💫 – at Sidney, British Columbia

What I love about this approach is how teachers & learners work together on challenging tasks, with lenses on learning. As they travel the experiences they are guided to notice evidence of where they are on a continuum of learning. Out of the work motivation will kindle spirit.💫 – at Sidney, British Columbia

Today our @SD27_CC management group did work with Raj Dhasi on Productive Workplace Interactions. I’m hooked on the strategies presented to strengthen our own ‘resilience maintenance’ - so much more tangible than “self-care”. Lots to practice!

1/2 🧵Part 2 of poetry! Powerful phrases were typed up from the final poems from the last class. Everyone’s initials were placed beside a phrase to honour each author. S’s cut up the phrases & rearranged them to create a new poem….

2/2 🧵…we shared them aloud & inspired more thought. 2day was about refining our understanding of what poets do & were more intentional, concise & poetic with our word choice. It was magical! @SmartLearningCA @susanclose5

Just a pretty special moment to bring my school leadership team together with @dylanwiliam @DBrownTownSD27 @chris24v @LenardonCheryl @SD27_CC. What can we do to change our habits to bring forward the best of what we have to offer - the best of teacher expertise? #NesikaLearns

Ann Nottingham put this wonderful sequence of lessons together eons ago. Timeless effectiveness. The processes develop deep thinking; learners work collaboratively & collectively to synthesize meaning. Priceless learning. Precious to see lines marked with 2X - repeat for effect🌟 – at Sidney, British Columbia
