The lack of self awareness is baffling. It's Republicans who use Christianity as a weapon. Jesus advocated for the sick, the poor, the needy, the outcast. Talarico contextualizes the lessons of Jesus Christ as a way to be more compassionate, tolerant, accommodating of outsiders, not cruel, antagonistic, alienating, etc... Talarico is an infinitely better representation of Christianity ethics than Donald Trump, Ken Paxton, and any so-called conservative "Christian" who subscribes to Trump's dehumanizing and anti-Christian sentiments. Talarico sees progressivism and Christianity as compatible, which they very much are. As opposed to the religious bigots on the right who see Christianity and ideologies of hate, extremism, white nationalism, and nativism as synonymous with one another. It's also Republicans who are compulsively and feverishly obsessed with all things transgender. To the point where being anti-trans is part of their identity. To the point where they are focused almost entirely on their culture wars and grievance politics instead of actually addressing the immediate issues that Americans want addressed. Transgender this, transgender that, Jesus this, Jesus that, all distractions. Americans are fed up with Trump and his party for this very reason. One reason among many why the Republican party is going to lose the election. Believe it or not, outside of this small echochamber where transphobia and culture wars pervade and poison the discourse, most Americans don't see this is a pertinent issue in the slightest. At the top of the list are issues like the affordability crisis and economic inequality, cuts to healthcare and food assistance, Trump's punishing tariffs and trade disputes, the ongoing forever war in Iran, rising costs and skyrocketing gas prices, rampant corruption, Trump's appeasement of foreign dictators, farmers going bankrupt, the exploding debt and deficit, the government's misuse of tax dollars for things like Trump's personal vanity projects, among other things of course.
