I've not really been on here for a while, but realised I hadn't really made that clear.
I'm the same name on BS and Masto (scicomm.xyz/@superlinguo). And, of course, the blog is still blogging away.

Call for survey participants: Emoji preferences for Australian English speakers
My PhD student Mohanad Al-azzam is looking for Australian participants over the age of 18 for a short (5-10 minutes) anonymous online survey. Participant info and survey here:
redcap.latrobe.edu.au/redcap…
This survey will compare emoji preferences of Australian English & Jordanian Arabic speakers, as part of a larger project on Jordanian Arabic emoji use.
I'll share results when Mohanad's PhD thesis is complete! (Ethics approval La Trobe Univesrity, reference number HEC22011)

These sentences both take place in the past, but they refer to events with different shapes: this difference is known as aspect

With @kensycoop in @glossa_oa. I'm so proud of this one.
Grateful to @kensycoop, the reviewers and editorial team at @glossa_oa. Thanks to @DingemanseMark for his named review. It's always a pleasure to get feedback on a paper from Mark!

I'm lucky to work with good people, at an institution unfortunately named after someone who facilitated dispossession & genocide. So, my colleagues & I put in a submission to @yoorrookjc outlining why our university needs a name change. Read it here:
yoorrookjusticecommission.or…

ALT Black text on off-white background. Text reads: Summary. This submission was made by a group of 57 staff and students from La Trobe University. The submission proposes that La Trobe University be renamed due to Charles La Trobe’s role in Victoria’s colonisation, and that doing this would align with comments made by Yoorrook’s Chair, Professor Eleanor Bourke and Premier Jacinta Allan in terms of the importance of understanding history from a First Nations perspective.
This interview with Jacq Jones is an absolute delight. Gender! Voice! Shirt Buttons! Why R is such a weird sound to make!
Voice is one part of how we express identity, and we can use it differently in different situations, depending on things like who we're talking to and what we're wearing
We talk with Jacq Jones about how nonbinary and binary people talk!
