The Liberals had a chance today to protect the right to strike. Instead, they voted against it. Now they’re pushing ahead with Bill C-39, which would give ministers even greater powers to shut down legal strikes.
Shame. Grateful to @LeahGazan for having workers’ backs.

I am calling on Canada to oppose the candidacy of Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE's nominee for UN Secretary General. Human rights are not negotiable. Those complicit in atrocities are unfit to lead the UN. See my letter.

Very glad Canada showed some backbone and did the right thing here.
🇨🇺 🇺🇳 NEW: The UN General Assembly just overwhelmingly voted to condemn the US embargo of Cuba — the 34th time since 1992.

New Democrats have repeatedly raised concerns about the UAE’s human rights record with the Liberals – including the UAE’s role in the genocide in Sudan. Canada should not sign a trade deal with a country fueling genocide and weapons should not be shipped while this continues.

Today is International Animation Day. For decades, the National Film Board has revolutionized animation. There are many great films but my personal favourite is The Log Driver's Waltz. Created to foster national unity, it is beloved. This is the story. 📸NFB 🧵 1/7

Canadians are tough. So was Elsie MacGill, the first woman to earn a degree in aeronautical engineering, she advanced aviation in Canada designing for harsh winter conditions, while inspiring generations of innovators along the way.❄️✈📸 @LibraryArchives /a148464 – 3222815

Asking Canadian media producers and on air performers to tell the story of this great Canadian, who been killed in Ukraine. Rest in Peace Jesse Adams.
💔 IN MEMORY OF JESSE ADAMS — A TRUE HERO FOR ANIMALS 💔 It is with enormous sadness that we have learned of the tragic death of Jesse Adams, founder of RainCoast Dog Rescue Society in Canada, who lost his life while carrying out an animal rescue mission in one of the most dangerous areas of Ukraine. Jesse dedicated his life to saving animals, even when it meant putting his own life at risk. We first came to know Jesse in 2021, when Afghanistan fell to the Taliban. Jesse and RainCoast were among the extraordinary organisations that came together to assist KSAR with the evacuation of 285 cats and dogs, helping many find loving forever homes. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Jesse travelled to the border to help fleeing families and their pets, providing veterinary care, supplies and assistance getting animals to safety. He returned repeatedly, undertaking increasingly dangerous missions. Most recently, Jesse worked alongside Animal Rescue Kharkiv, rescuing hundreds of animals from devastated frontline communities under constant threat from drones, missiles and artillery. These were extraordinary acts of compassion and courage in the face of unimaginable danger. Jesse knew the risks. He knew every mission could be his last. Yet he continued because he believed animals caught in conflict deserved protection just as much as those living in peace. Those of us working in animal rescue in conflict zones understand and accept these risks. But few possess the courage to repeatedly travel towards danger when everyone else is trying to escape it. Jesse was one of those very special people. His death is a devastating loss to his family, friends, RainCoast and the international animal rescue community. Our hearts go out to everyone who knew and loved him, particularly the Ukrainian rescuers who worked alongside him. His legacy lives on in every animal he saved and every rescuer he inspired. Rest in peace, Jesse. The world has lost an extraordinary human being, and the animals have lost a true champion. 🐾💔 With love and deepest respect, Louise and everyone at War Paws #JesseAdams #RainCoastDogRescue #WarPaws #Ukraine #AnimalRescue

Great commentary in the CBC about BC's historically low voter turnout and the role first-past-the-post plays in that, with commentary from Fair Vote Canada. We need proportional representation so everyone feels they have a voice in our democracy. cbc.ca/news/canada/british-c…

Arabs invented our numbers. "Alghebra" is an Arabic word for a reason. Last year's Nobel for Chemistry went to Palestinian-American Omar Yaghi for metal-organic frameworks. Never mind the irony of RFK Jr accusing others of not being scientifically-minded.
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Novel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
