More than 350 new training posts go live today. Meaning more opportunities for doctors. A step in the right direction, but there's still a long way to go.
We will keep pushing the Government to go further and faster, so the pay deal is fully implemented as soon as possible.

Let's talk time out of training (TOOT) and strikes.
Don’t let misleading information put you off striking.
Listen to the facts, make sure your portfolio is ARCP ready, and get ready to strike.

Brief thread about this to try and get the framing right. Predicted this ages ago, was told I was wrong, and that seems to be because people will obstinately refuse to listen when it comes to something that happens in their own department and they like the people involved.
Substitution of doctors with nurses and AHPs - badged as ST3 equivalent after a Masters and no exams - is a pillar of the NHS 10 year plan
It’s an experiment on the public by @NHSEngland without ethical approval or informed consent by @CMO_England
Are the Royal Colleges and @AoMRC complicit? They can’t say they haven’t been warned
Dr Sumi Manirajan retweeted
It’s not controversial or punching down to say you need a medical degree to work as a doctor
It’s just common sense
Leadership that have enabled this have a lot of explaining to do IMHO
The BMA has warned that the widespread use of “non-doctors” in medical roles is “simply not safe” and may be driven by hospitals using staff who are cheaper than doctors to save money
theguardian.com/society/2026…
We have uncovered a haphazard approach to the use of Advanced Practitioner (AP) roles by NHS trusts. Our investigation has revealed almost half of hospital trusts are using non-doctors to fill doctor rota gaps.
APs can play an important and valued role in patient care. But they should not be asked to substitute for doctors to address staffing gaps.
Patients shouldn’t have to worry about whether NHS managers have asked non-doctors to deliver care that only doctors can safely deliver.

This sends shivers down our spine .
You’re replacing Drs with ACPs who haven’t studied medicine
You’re PAYING 40 million pounds PER YEAR TO TRAIN THEM.
They are paid 50k as TRAINEES !
Yet no money for Drs

This is what everyone is taking about today. The demise of the NHS as we know it. Where you should be seeing a doctor and you’re not. We’re short of doctors because you deny them posts. Yes, of course a MDT it’s important, but not a team that should have a doctor and doesn’t.

If any of Matt’s Stockton constituents have a stroke outside of office hours, on any day of the week, they will be denied a particular life saving stroke treatment called mechanical thrombectomy.
We don’t have enough radiologists in Teesside to deliver that stroke treatment out of hours in an already stretched service.
His Tory govt’s approach to workforce planning was a binfire and his constituents are suffering as a result.
Instead of solutions, he is more interested in muzzling those raising the alarm, to the continued detriment of his constituents.
'We would ban resident doctors from striking. We need to get tough with these guys.'
@MarkWhiteTV challenges Shadow Policing Minister Matt Vickers on the Conservative Party's handling of NHS strikes, as he criticises Labour's approach to negotiating with the BMA.
'Do you accept that striking over this period is going to put undue pressure on the NHS?' - @KamaliMelbourne
'Strikes are temporary, but the pressure on the NHS is continuous, and if we don't do something, the damage will be permanent.' - @DocShivSharma

What have you done to stop nurses pay from being eroded as chair of congress for the RCN?
Nurses have been hammered by pay erosion and below‑inflation deals, and the RCN hasn’t delivered any strategy to stop it.
So watching you attack doctors, the only group actually pushing back is appalling.

We remain concerned about the inappropriate substitution of doctors with non-medically qualified staff.
We’re exploring how advanced practice roles are being used by NHS employers. To help with this, we’re asking UK doctors and medical students to complete our advanced practice survey.

Ward‑walked Ealing and West Middlesex with Nikos today as North Thames reps.
Doctors told us about their low pay, and so many colleagues are worried about unemployment with so few training posts.
Doctors in England, please return your ballot and vote YES for fair pay and jobs.

In 1970 the Drs pay review body awarded 30% to junior doctors & consultants to counter inflation. The government gave 30% to juniors but 15% to consultants. The whole pay review body resigned in protest. The report acknowledged affordability but placed fairness first. The 30% ended up being paid. 1/2
