Can we tackle #hunger and #malnutrition together? Our experience with Egg Hubs in Malawi suggests we can — by making nutritious food more affordable while creating livelihoods for local farmers. The Telegraph recently visited the work. We hope to take this much further across Africa, reaching many more farmers and communities. Perhaps an idea worth sharing with those thinking about the future of food, including @BezosEarthFund telegraph.co.uk/global-healt…

At the Micronutrient Forum 7th Global Conference 2026 in Accra, Ghana 🇬🇭 @SightandLife, together with our partners we convened a session on Menstrual Health in Girls and Women, bringing critical conversations on menstrual bleeding, pain and anaemia to the forefront. The Plenary Segment Session : From Evidence to Care: Hearing Girls and Improving Support Where They Live and Learn We were honored to welcome Prof. Kristen Matteson , Chair of @FIGOHQ Committee, who shared expert perspectives on what does the first point of care from either a nurse, a midwife, a school health worker need in order to recognize heavy menstrual bleeding and what could change in clinical training or guidelines so that heavy menstrual bleeding is asked about routinely wherever anemia is assessed. She stated, “Heavy menstrual bleeding and pain are too often normalised because menstrual health remains overlooked in routine care, while first-line providers need simple screening tools, clear referral pathways and confidence to listen without judgement, there is a need to also prioritize understanding of menstrual history/ measurement as routine vital question whenever anaemia is assessed and to be supported by practical guidelines and training that turn recognition into timely, compassionate care.” This session also marked the launch of 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗣 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗦, a global campaign to make menstrual blood loss and its consequences for girls and women visible, heard and acted upon because, 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱. With 2030 approaching, #GlobalGoalsWeek is a reminder that nutrition is both a driver and a marker of global development, and deserves sustained attention and investment.   At least 12 of the 17 Global Goals include indicators that are closely linked to nutrition. Improved nutrition is a platform for progress in health, education, employment, women’s empowerment and the reduction of poverty and inequality, while also contributing to more peaceful, secure and stable societies.   🔹Yet progress remains slow, and the world is still off track to meet key global nutrition targets by 2030.   Malnutrition is shaped by more than access to nutritious and safe food. Health, care, education, water, sanitation and hygiene, women’s empowerment, livelihoods and access to resources all influence nutrition outcomes. Addressing it therefore requires action across sectors, with governments, researchers, funders, communities and the private sector working together to develop solutions that can be delivered, financed and sustained at scale.   📍This is the approach we bring to our work at Sight and Life: combining evidence with cross-sector partnerships and delivery models that respond to local realities and create pathways to lasting impact.   As world leaders meet at #UNGA81, attention is turning to what it will take to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. For nutrition, that means investing in what works, strengthening the partnerships needed to deliver at scale, and ensuring evidence translates into action where it matters most.   🔗Learn more about why nutrition matters across the SDGs: cms.sightandlife.org/wp-cont… #SDGs #Nutrition #GlobalHealth #FoodSystems

We’ll also be bringing an important conversation of our own to the Forum — one that starts by listening to girls, looks closely at what the evidence is telling us, and asks what it will take to translate that knowledge into better support and care. Evidence or funding alone does not create impact. Lasting change depends on the people, partnerships and systems that put both to work. At the 25th @SwissFdns Symposium in Bern, our Scientific Director, and Head of Finance and Accounting, joined conversations on funding, localisation, knowledge transfer and the human dynamics behind impact. For us, one question stands out: Why does evidence sometimes fail to translate into action? In nutrition, evidence is only the beginning. Solutions must work in real-world settings, respond to local priorities and be supported to scale. That is why @SightandLife works at the intersection of science, communities, governments and markets, helping turn evidence into solutions that can grow and last. Thank you to @SwissFdns for creating space for these important conversations. #AndAction #Partnership #EvidenceToAction #Philanthropy

We are pleased to sign the Memorandum of Understanding between YADAM Foundation and @SightandLife, in the recent concluded Africa Food Systems Forum ( @TheAGRF ) 2026, to champion and scale fermentation for nutrition impact, standardizing indigenous knowledge while building credible, investable pathways from evidence to policy and scale. I once again extend my sincere appreciation to H.E. @DemekeHasen, former Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia and Founder/Board Chair of the Yadam Foundation for his leadership , reinforcing our shared commitment to advancing food safety, supporting innovation and unlocking the nutritional potential of fermentation across Africa. @yadamfoundation #AFSForum2026 #FoodSystems #Fermentation #YADAMFoundation #SightAndLife
📣 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 @SightandLife and YADAM Foundation have formalised a new partnership to help build the foundations for scaling fermented foods in #Ethiopia 🇪🇹 The Memorandum of Understanding was endorsed during the Africa Food Systems Forum 2026 in Kigali by H.E. @DemekeHasen, Founder and Chairman of YADAM Foundation and Mr.Elvis Gakuba (@live2serve), Africa Director at @sightandlife. Through this partnership, we will work to strengthen the evidence and systems understanding needed to identify promising fermented foods and explore how they can contribute to better nutrition, public health and more resilient food systems. The work will look across four interconnected areas: 🔹Research and development 🔹Market assessment 🔹Regulatory assessment 🔹 Campaign readiness These will help us understand nutrition potential, viable pathways to market, regulatory and safety considerations, and what future scale-up could look like. This next chapter builds on Sight and Life’s earlier work on fermentation, including our Special Report, 𝙁𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣: 𝘼𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙣 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨, launched at N4G in 2025 with support from the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF). 🔉𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 We’re pleased to share new research on what it takes to build a more productive, sustainable and commercially viable egg sector for smallholder farmers in #Ethiopia. Published in @FrontiersIn Sustainable Food Systems, the study examines the implementation of the 𝗘𝗴𝗴 𝗛𝘂𝗯 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲l through the 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗮 (𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗘) project, adapting an approach first developed in #Malawi to the Ethiopian context. In its first cycle, the model delivered encouraging results: 🥚 More than 4.1 million eggs produced across 16 farmer groups 💰 $1,014 average net profit per farmer member 👩🏾 56% of participating farmers were women 📈 A model combining access to inputs, technical and veterinary support, business training, finance and stronger market linkages. The research adds to a growing evidence base showing how market-based nutrition solutions can strengthen local food systems and livelihoods while increasing the supply of nutrient-dense foods such as eggs.
