🧵 🪡 See one of only three surviving quilt tops made by Martha Washington—a colorful design featuring 19 different fabrics and patterns! It's on display until January 15th, 2027🪡 🧵
While intended to be completed and used as a decorative bed cover, the "Children's Games" quilt top remained unfinished at her death. Her granddaughter, Elizabeth Parke Custis Law, inherited and carefully preserved it.
When she pieced this quilt top together, she created one of the largest and most colorful expressions of her creative personality. The technical composition and stitching reveal her expertise as a quilter. She used a common format—the framed center medallion—and made it her own with design choices that set her work apart from other quilters of the period.

Eight years later, especially after the Hurricane that can’t be pronounced, this is still raw.
All of our wind sensors in the entire area broke when winds hit 160+ before the storm even made landfall.
It made landfall on Tyndall Air Force base and every building was damaged. All of the military housing was destroyed. My friends home with her children’s stuff was unrecoverable. They nearly closed the base permanently due to the damage- until Trump stepped in.
The East side of the storm took the worst of the damage, but it was luckily rural. Mexico Beach saw the worst of the storm surge at 24’. That’s halfway up the third floor. Many of the concrete foundations were gone. We lost 90% of our canopy. When the electric company came to restore power, they had to put in all new poles because most were gone, broken, or at 50 degree angles. The entire area was unrecognizable to people who had lived here their entire lives.
Many, many people had to be chainsawed out of their home due to trees trapping people inside. Helping your neighbor was key to our survival.
It took weeks to 6 weeks to get power restored. The mail service was out about 3-4 weeks. Water and sewage took days to over a week. Cell service worked for only AT&T until about 6 weeks later.
We lived without modern amenities in the rain and sun until we could get services. Until our houses were livable we lived in trailers or outside- many of us for years after the hurricane.
We had curfews out of necessity. City Roads were impassable for days. All of the hospitals took major damage and even closed. Some hospitals still have not recovered 8 years later.
The Salvation Army fed us for over a month. @SamaritansPurse was one of the first in and stayed over a year. We all depended on each other and the help from our fellow men.
Every single person in the 40 mile wide path was affected- their job, their car, their home but for most all was affected. The path went all the way to Georgia.
On our Hurricane Michael anniversary, I am so glad to see those on the Gulf Coast doing so well, because what I’ve seen was so much worse. I’m so happy this wasn’t as bad as it could be.
For those who had no idea, we know. It’s because the damage was so bad we couldn’t tell you. We couldn’t call for help or post for you to see.
And for all of those who know the devastation of Hurricane Michael, I hope you are stronger today than you were.
To those with a fresh taste of Mother Nature, we are here for you.
Sending my Love.

Keep pressing on the Flock front. The AI freakout sidelined the controversy, which was going one way for Flock -- the wrong way.
Throw a fit on the local level. Local authorities are the buyers of these systems.

I had complete insomnia, I got sucked in and rewatched it overnight
It's so good, I had forgotten! Hypnotic and strange, more creatively shot than his later work. Feels a lot like the Third Man actually. (The only weak spot is this one American actor, who is so terrible it's funny)

Why it's important to start now.
For a little context, the town that built this cathedral in the early Medieval period (Ely, England) had a population of 108 households according to the Domesday Book, right around the time they began construction. That's a total population of around 400-500. By 1377 when they were doing the Gothic renovations you see here, the poll taxes show a population of around 2,500. How could a place the size of a truck-stop township build something like this? Answer: the monastery there generated tremendous economic productivity, and thus was able to fund the project and provide work for generations of craftsmen and builders. The monks supervised the construction and it took centuries. A whole different outlook on doing business.

Update: I had a well known veteran advocate who runs a nonprofit reach out to me. He’s offered to help take some weight off of me. The ball is rolling. I want to get his blessing before I shout him out from the rooftops.
People have shared a lot of great looking resources to help with the rest.
He’s supposed to help with the one I was most worried about, because it affects me the most.
Thank you all so much for your kind words and resources. I’m starting to see a glimmer of light again. 💚🙏🏼
The demons are getting bad
The VA has repeatedly failed me
I can’t afford private insurance
Medicaid denied me
I have 5 degenerative back diseases
COPD is getting bad
I’m months behind on bills
My identity was stolen
Quality of life is zero
It’s all making me feel hopeless
I need to catch a break soon
Anyone know of any financial resources to help veterans catch up on life by chance?
