On Monday, the Alliance of BC Students and student unions from across the province showed up to the Post-Secondary Education Minister's office to slam the government's performative review of BC's public post-secondary education system.

The Alliance of BC Students welcomes the announcement that the Ministry of Finance has initiated an investigation into the Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) under a special provision of the Societies Act.
#bcstudents #bcpse #bcpoli
1/
BC student societies are regulated by the Societies Act, and are accountable to their members + the public thru the Act.
BC students expect their student societies to demonstrate high standards of ethical conduct, fiscal responsibility... (cont'd)
#bcstudents #bcpse #bcpoli
3/
...good governance, transparency, and accountability.
Upholding these high standards is the norm, and is essential to maintaining the trust that students place in their elected representatives.

BC students have been clear:
Four months is NOT enough time for to review an entire sector.
The 2% limit on tuition increases MUST stay in place.
And cuts and mergers ARE NOT the solution to decades of government underfunding.
#bcstudents #bcpse #bcpoli #bcpostsecreview
2/
BC students are demanding the government commit to public funding,
NOT cuts or tuition increases for already struggling students.

The Alliance of BC Students proudly endorses the Global Climate Strike in Vancouver today organized by @fff_vancouver.
We're in a climate emergency. It's time our leaders acted like it.
Students deserve better than a climate crisis.

Great to talk to @Gordon_Hoekstra and the @VancouverSun about what the BC govt got right in its new rules protecting international students, and what still needs to be done to end the rampant exploitation.

International students will continue to be exploited & struggle w/ high fees if the govt doesn’t:
1) properly fund post-sec institutions
2) Cap their tuition increases to 2%/year (same as domestic students)
