I’m bringing back a blog series I ran for years: The App Store Experiment.
From 2013–2020 it reached nearly 1 million readers and documented real experiments growing an app on the App Store.
But the ecosystem has changed dramatically.
• ASO is harder.
• Ad spend on Meta and TikTok has exploded.
• AI built apps are flooding the store.
So I’m rebooting the series in 2026.
I’ll be running a new set of experiments, including:
• Screenshot A/B tests
• Ad campaigns
• Localised pricing changes
• Custom Product Page experiments
• Anything else that comes up!
And I’ll share what worked, what didn’t, and the data behind it.

Had a lot of fun with the Product Page Header on StrongEra, what do you think? apps.apple.com/us/app/id6743…
Ended up expanding the prompt quite a bit for Proto Protein & Fiber. But, blown away by the result.
Happy to share the prompt if anyone wants it.
Okay, everybody is doing it, but I couldn't resist: Here is Opus 5.5 one-shot of the prompt: "make a dynamic 15-second motion graphics video that shows what an incredible motion designer you are. Highlight the recent changes we made with the last few updates."
Probably needs more time because we are shipping so many things 👀
Templates (including @figma) are up for Product Page Headers and Search Result Images ready for iOS 27 developer.apple.com/app-stor…
I still don’t think developers realise what iOS 27 can do on device.
This image classifier is just a few lines of Swift.
No custom ML model.
No server.
No API key.
Just Apple Foundation Models.
Looking forward to speaking at this. It's the Aussie after party for WWDC. Come along, it should be a lot of fun ontour.devworld.au/index.php
New App Store Experiment: Can better screenshots improve conversion?
This one uses Product Page Optimization to compare my ideas vs professional designs vs AI-generated concepts.
I also share how I decide what actually wins without waiting weeks.

This is new for me at least. Automated app review from Apple.
The app doesn't have advertising fwiw.
The App Store’s second ad placement now means you might be buying an ad just under your organic result 🤷♂️

Looking forward to joining this panel with my good friends @mdelbo and @mattcomi, both brilliant app developers. It should be a fun one. If you’re in Perth and interested in mobile apps, come along. meetup.com/perth-mobile-app-…

I'm doing an AMA over on Reddit if anyone is keen to follow along

What happens when two founders get restless?
@clairesayshi and I built a new app in a week. Instead of logging every bite, just snap a photo to track your protein. Not perfect? Tell it what's missing.
