Hot off the presses! Beautiful study led by @Yulong68 and @bwdraper, using scRNA-seq to reveal the cellular diversity and structure of the zebrafish ovary. The amount of new information is incredible! It was a joy to see this unfold from the beginning!

Several siphonophores deploy in a spiral. Most famous is probably the "Galaxy siph" but I'm pretty partial to Apolemia lanosa, which we described with @stsiebert . It looks like how I used to draw cobra snakes when I was a kid.

Check out this beautiful *giant* siphonophore Apolemia recorded on #NingalooCanyons expedition. It seems likely that this specimen is the largest ever recorded, and in strange UFO-like feeding posture. Thanks @Caseywdunn for info @wamuseum @GeoscienceAus @CurtinUni @Scripps_Ocean

I’ll be giving a lecture at MBL in Woods Hole on Friday night in honor of Osamu Shimomura. He is best known for the Nobel Proze on Green Fluorescent Protein but made many significant discoveries on the chemistry of bioluminescence and was a great mentor.
