It’s important to remember there are plenty of problems unrelated to memory safety that are solved by unique mutability and lifetimes.
I think a lot about the time that a buddy of mine had a bug in some Java code where they did `if (collection.len() > 0) { item = collection.pop() }` and it broke because the collection changed size in between My brain broke cause I'm so used to that being compile-checked

The man who gained fame by successfully sending two generations of researchers in linguistic on a wild goose chase (see xitter.cf/akoz33/status/14602866…) and used this fame to make himself of the best known apologists for tyrants & murders and to defame all those who opposed them.
Hearing Noam Chomsky's health has deteriorated to the point it now prevents him from writing, commenting or participating in the public domain. As an educator he has been without equal. An intellectual giant in an age of confusion, misinformation & soundbites. Thank you, Noam. ❤️

Great post. Scale and scalability are just one of many reasons why you're going to end up doing distributed systems. And why distsys is worth studying. brooker.co.za/blog/2024/06/0…

Every project at CMU Advanced DB course 2024, built on top of Datafusion. To me, this denotes a clear trend towards "composable data stack" hypothesis. Datafusion is designed from the ground up for extensibility. Also, Rust lang was de-facto choice.

Software development is not going away. The tooling will change. But humans will still have to reason in formal languages to build software.

Luxury software exists. There are plenty of people who spend $100k+ on getting Emacs, Arch Linux, etc. configured just right. But it’s less visible because the spending is opportunity cost.
I think a lot about how we don’t have anything in software in the category of luxury.
