In a live class at home, it helps to know that somebody saw you arrive. In Peloton live classes, a Leaderboard shows who is in the class. A tap sends a high five to another person's screen. In your own class, say the names of the people who joined.

You can't see the viewer who got bored halfway through your stream. You also can't see the parent who never asked their question. When viewers talk about the game or the sermon, they do it in a group chat on another app. What can viewers do at your stream, apart from watching?

In 2016, a radio group let listeners ask a band questions by video call during a webcast. Alpha Media called it the "Skype Live Studio", in Portland, Oregon. Could a viewer ask a question at your stream with their own voice?

Some students never speak in class, but they may still answer a question. Purdue's online teaching hub has a guide to Slido. Students join with a QR code or a link, install nothing, and can ask a question without their name. How easy is it for your viewers to answer you?

Viewers who leave your live stream early can't tell you why. In most streams they can't say hello, and they can't answer a question, because nobody asked one. So they close the page. At your next stream, ask them one question and read the answers out loud.

Gym members ask for flexible plans before lower prices. What members ask for, say 662 owners in a Wellhub survey: - 1st: flexible or shorter contracts (66%) - 2nd: digital or hybrid options (65%) - 4th: lower prices (46%) Offer an online class before you offer a discount.

Every live stream needs one person whose only job is to read and answer messages. The person speaking can't do it. They are busy speaking. It works for a service, a club meeting or a class, and it costs one volunteer for one hour. Who could do this job at your next stream?

Your live stream can lose viewers one at a time, and nobody tells you why. Most viewers can only watch. When their attention drops, they close the page. Give them one small job: a question to answer, or a guess at the final score. wpstream.net/your-viewers-wa…

In a Bango survey, 32% of US consumers regularly pay for one sports season, then cancel. Before your last game, decide what the pass holds after it, like the season's replays. On WpStream, a recording is a video on demand only when you turn it into one. wpstream.net/recordings-vide…

Some football fan channels put their viewers' messages on the screen during the match. Anfield Agenda uses Stream Builder graphics for the lineups, match stats and paid messages from viewers. At your next stream, read one viewer's message out loud, with their name.

Ask the same kind of question at every stream, so answering becomes a habit. Ask it before you start. Read some answers during the stream. Say who answered at the end. Pick one question and use it for your next four streams.

Local TV news is now on free streaming channels that are paid for by ads. Gray Media's 111 local stations joined Local Now, a free service with about 370 local news channels. If you make a weekly local program, free channels are one more place people look for it.

A message box that nobody reads tells the viewer that nobody is listening. The Church Online Platform gives the messages to volunteers. They host the service and pray for viewers live. The pastor preaches. Somebody else answers. Who reads the messages at your stream?

Before your next stream starts, post one question that has a short answer. "Where are you watching from?" works for a church, a club or a class. Then read some answers out loud during the stream, with the names. What question could your viewers answer in five seconds?
12
The person who never speaks in your live class may still answer a short question. Make it easy: one question, a short answer, nothing to install. Then read some answers out loud, with the names. What is one question you could ask at the start of your next class?

Your recording is a file. Your archive is a page with a date on it. Not the same thing, and March will prove it. One page per service. The date in the title. Four or five lines of plain text under the video. That text is the reason anybody finds it later. Nothing reads a video.

Two community radio stations decided how long a show stays up, then told people. Wild concept. KHEN lists a days-to-stay number against every show. WYSO gives local programs two weeks. How long does your own replay stay up, and did anybody choose that number?

Friday's game is worth more on Saturday than it was on Friday. State Champs keeps the high school football broadcast on its own site the next day, on a watch page, next to the week's write-ups. Post only a live link and the thing you spent all week making is gone by Monday.

A church in Tampa got flagged for child safety mid-service. The congregation was singing. The appeal went in the same day and a human reviewer upheld the deletion. Nobody broke a rule. (via @newrican1) Keep a copy of Sunday on a page you own, where no filter can reach it.

Nothing tests an opinion about church livestreams like three months of missing church. Someone who isn't a fan of livestreamed church couldn't attend for three months, then wrote six thoughts on it. (via @MurrayJCampbell) Does your stream page welcome people who can't come in?
