As part of the Upskilling Day in @callstackio, I had a pleasure to talk about testing strategies. Most important rule: make sure your tests test! 🎉

In my 33 years career in software development, I've seen at least three or four bouts of mad rush caused by the panic to hire software developers. Every now and then, our industry goes into a frenzy where the demand outweighs the supply by at least a 1 to 10 factor.👇

I love it when people angrily prove the thing they’re against works brilliantly. This has “I’m not paying the Government for using plastic bags, I’ll show them, I’ll just use my own bags!” energy. – at Sibbesse, Deutschland

The one factor that made the most impact on my skill as an engineer was spending years pursuing DDD. I went from a data-model first developer to a behavior-first developer and the benefits have been clear and profound. oreilly.com/library/view/lea… I recommend starting here.

Pushing is a bad idea, but I don't think the notion of 'mature enough' holds water. Everybody wants to learn things that make their lives better. Identify problems. Solve them by applying lean/agile principles. Saying you can't do that until the team is "mature" is gatekeeping.

You just have to look at the McKinsey 2009 QIPP report. The introduction of AAPs to undermine Paramedics. The introduction of NAs to undermine Nurses (Check Ben Gummer of the 2016 dispute and now employed by McKinsey). The introduction of PAs, SCPs, AAs to undermine Doctors.

In case you’re wondering what the visual is made of, I actually built out a set of custom blocky blocks to represent OpenAPI. It’s available on GitHub if you want to play! github.com/lornajane/openapi…

It's incredible how productive it can be when you block off an entire afternoon to just "do work" instead of going from meeting to meeting.

If you can glue together a database, some API calls, a UI, and maybe a service to make a working application, that's a huge accomplishment. If you can do it repeatedly it's a skill. No one should minimize it. But don't stop there. It's not the end.

One year ago I started learning about software supply chain security as part of my job @chainguard_dev . As an educator, I was very curious about what all those initials meant (SLSA and such), but as a developer I just wanted to know "what am I supposed to do".

So nice meeting @arnaud_lb today. We brainstormed about many exciting ideas for #PHP: • native proxy objects • reified types towards generic classes • typed arrays • relation between closures and types • auto-unbinding $this from closures Don't miss donating to @ThePHPF!

#Whales Last year, Norway slaughtered 580 whales; many were pregnant. Now, they are increasing whale kill numbers and have removed onboard whale welfare monitors. They are worried about bad publicity, so let's give it to them. uk.whales.org/2023/05/04/nor…

We just had kingsday in the Netherlands and guess what? They designated an area for everyone that wanted to protest the king with signs and it was on the route.
