The “bin” they are paid $30 for is around one ton of fruit.
Meet Maritza and Carlos. This husband wife team work in Ducor CA picking bins of citrus for $30 each bin. At the end of their day both are tired and dirty but still thankful to be able to continue to work and support their family. #WeFeedYou

Farmworkers feed California. Why in the world would you exclude them from basic labor rights?
Of course farmworkers deserve overtime protections.
Two Democrats running to be California’s next governor scorned a state law that their own party, along with influential labor unions, celebrated as a major victory a decade ago.
The state’s 2016 agricultural overtime law was meant to raise wages for farmworkers, but research has shown it ended up reducing overall earnings as employers shortened the workweek to keep their production costs down.
Katie Porter, an Orange County Democrat and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, cited the law as an example of policies “that don’t make sense and that drive up costs.” Porter made the comments last week during an April 1 gubernational candidate forum at California State University, Fresno. Antonio Villaraigosa, a Democrat and former mayor of Los Angeles, agreed with Porter’s comments on the overtime law. “You’re right,” Villaraigosa said, citing research from the University of California, Berkeley, that documented the reduction in farmworker income.

Your car is not your castle — it’s a constitutional gray zone. It doesn’t have the same Fourth Amendment protections as homes.
You can refuse to open the door of your home if officers don’t have a warrant; you can’t refuse to step out of your car.

I will point out there is an active injunction against warrantless sweeps in Sacramento. Eastern district UFW v Noem. Since April
Seeing questions about the LA federal judge order last week and what impact it has on this Sacramento immigration operation?
The answer is zero. Judge Frimpong’s order applies to the Central District of CA (7 SoCal Counties). Sacramento is in the Eastern District of CA, where there is a different federal judge’s order in effect barring immigration arrests without probable cause.
Agents tell us today’s Home Depot operation was in accordance with that order. They conducted two days of surveillance on the Home Depot, running license plates that came back to previously deported illegal immigrants, giving them a suspicion that aliens would be present there. Then, when they arrived in Border Patrol marked vests, those who immediately fled from them without a word being spoken gave them probable cause.

BREAKING: United Farm Workers and Bakersfield residents sue Border Patrol for unlawful practices.
CBP’s January immigration raids terrorized communities and tore apart families. – at Bakersfield, CA
It’s been repeated over and over since one person was quoted claiming 75% of farmworkers are stating home from work due to fear of immigration sweeps.
This is simply not true. Workers are scared, but they can’t afford to stay home. It is peak citrus harvest and they’re working.
We talked with our staff and worker leaders in citrus, tree nuts, wine grapes and other crops in Bakersfield and it simply didn’t happen. Amidst all their anxiety, these people are still going to work to provide for their families and feed this country.
