There can never be full trust in digital games when you aren’t even able to own what you’re buying. In any case, physical media must be preserved, because it will always be the only and most reliable way to play games and have agency over their usage, and they must contain the ENTIRE game, whether on one disc and four even. They made it possible to play PlayStation 2 games straight from the disc (no dumping) on a jailbroken PS5 console🚀 This could’ve been an official feature Sony could’ve given us that But no, their greed and lies are above all considerations, and they made it so you either re-buy digitally or subscribe to PS+ to play from an abysmal selection, or be at the mercy of overpriced and censored/basterdized remakes and remasters💿

Former PlayStation CEO, Shawn Layden spoke against Sony ending physical media and shed light on the concerns about game ownership in a digital-only future🚀 “If you don't own it, what are you buying?” He added that this decision will be “a significant brand hit” and a “reputation bite” for PlayStation. He went on to list the benefits of collecting and showing off your collection of games, and highlighted the very real concern about ownership: “I think this is probably the more insidious aspect to it, is that it changes the conversation [to] ‘do you own a game or do you have access to a digital asset. If you can’t sell a thing, that means you don’t own a thing. And if you don’t own it, then what are you buying? If you’re buying access, that doesn’t quite sound as sexy, to be honest. Sony LIES to the world that its “hard” to run PS3 games on PS5 so they can make you subscribe for $160 a year to their terrible Classic catalogue🚀 Meanwhile, RPCS3 emulator appears to be running just fine on PS5 Pro. This the same Sony that lies about discs not selling well, among others things, because their greed knows no bounds💿

I’ve been a PlayStation gamer all my life, so this isn’t coming from a place of hate, but a desire for rectification🚀 I’m glad players are finally waking up to the reality that Sony, and by extension most of gaming has been thriving on a 2 decade old glory, and that most of what’s being made nowadays is neither worth the wait nor the price, and it’s a beautiful glaze on a decaying cake. It goes beyond nitpicking or but with expanse comes accountability: ✅Pricing continues to increase ✅Development times expand by years ✅Budgets are ballooning ✅Quality is in decline ✅No transparency or commutation ✅Ownership is diminishing ✅Consoles becoming way more expensive ✅Barely any remarkable leaps So it makes total sense to focus on the details: ❓Why am I paying $70? ❓Why am I waiting 5-7 years? ❓Why can’t I own my game? ❓Why do I need internet? ❓Why does the water splatter look fake? ❓Why is the movement stiff? ❓Why many cuteness & little gameplay? ❓Why cutscenes are now boring and stiff? All their questions are valid when the products keep getting more complicated, expensive and time-consuming to make and play. Sony, and by extension gaming, needs a major reset, and players who stand up and not just consume out of brand loyalty. There is no loyalty There is no “I support that studio” There is no point in pretending what is not good to be good just to support a “side” The only side that matters is your own interest in games. A number of Blu-ray-related patents for Sony will be expiring between 2026 and 2031, ending their ability to collect royalties on physical movie and video game discs🚀 This means audiences will be forced to rely exclusively on streaming platforms, if physical media is entirely phased out. Blu-Rays and UHD Blu-Rays have a noticeably superior quality compared to digital/streaming counter parts, as the latter suffers lower video and audio quality due to higher compression. So once again, this isn’t about nostalgia, this is about Sony taking away: ❌Quality ❌Ownership ❌Competitive pricing ❌Preservation Sony has recently removed 500 movies from users’ purchases list without compensation. They are actively ruining our gaming and viewing experiences, while masquerading it as “the future”, and we MUST NOT BE SILENT.
