After a bit of thought I'm going to have to sit X/Twitter out for a bit. I can be found elsewhere: LinkedIn, instagram photos of beautiful parts of the world and dogs, old fashioned email contacts, and latest research updates can be found here: linktr.ee/stewcampbell
Tis true — Birmingham does a great graduation ceremony with some fabulous music making.
What's one of the best things about graduation ceremonies at the University of Birmingham?
The live music 🎶
@UniMusicUoB Symphonic Brass are amazing and make graduations feel incredibly special! 🎓📷
After a solid good news cycle for the last 24 hours I’m not sure what the omen of swarms of wasps in York City centre is gonna bring for the rest of the day 🐝
Although I’m absolutely thrilled about the result there is some very wise thinking here. They won’t do number 8. To their detriment.
Ten random thoughts on the Conservative Party collapse at the GE and where we go next from an ex-Party Chairman
1. Do not assume this is rock bottom; we could face oblivion at the next election. Our fate is in the hands of our parliamentary party in a proper partnership with the voluntary party
2. Reform was not responsible for our losses - we were. The result was not an accident; the voters used their votes to remove Conservatives from government. The voters were not sending a message; they were dismissing us
3. Reform took 5 seats from us. The LibDems gained 63. There are now no safe seats
4. The digital world has eclipsed the influence of newspapers and TV. The Conservatives fought an analogue campaign on digital platforms. Our attempts at memes looked like 1990’s PPB or Posters. Labour’s and Respect’s were witty and targeted
5. Warning against a Super Majority is a two-edged sword. It tells your people you have lost and reminds your opponents to vote tactically.
6. Tactical voting will be massively influential at the next GE
7. The Conservative Party is only successful when it is a broad collection of the centre-right. We join together to promote enterprise and individual freedom within the rule of law. We can only do this together in government
8. We should take our time picking the Party's next Leader. Create time for the best person to bring us together to emerge. Treat the voluntary Party respectfully, start the process at our Annual Conference and end it in late November.
9. Do not lecture the public; listen to the wisdom of the people; in furtherance of that, adopt a PPC in every target seat by March 2026 to coordinate that engagement
10. Above all, the Conservative must unambiguously set its moral compass in the direction of public service, obligation and duty firmly based on the Nolan Principles of Public Life (selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership)

Very emotional to do my last ever interview before this momentous election with @JonathanPieNews

Very good long read here:
One toxic ingredient from years of Tory rule can be eliminated easily: the constant drip-feed of paranoid, xenophobic and anti-intellectual rhetoric which seeks to win approving newspaper headlines with mindless attacks on universities. #VoteForChange

This is so true 😂

Happy anniversary of ordination to one of my dearest friends @PaulShackerley. The church has been greatly enriched by your ministry and talents over the past 30 years and Brecon Cathedral is very fortunate to have you at the helm.

.@RishiSunak says he comes from a family of small business.
His father-in-law’s company, Infosys, employs 260,000 people.
So not really that small……
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Rishi Sunak is not blood related to his father-in-law so he didn’t ’come from’ them.
Rishi’s father was a GP and his mother ran a small pharmacy.

An epic wall of sound last night in the Bruckner Te Deum as part of a fantastic finale for the end of term. A superb concert! Congratulations to all involved @UoYConcerts @YorkFestofIdeas.
The @UniOfYork Choir and Symphony Orchestra are sounding amazing in rehearsal ahead of their concert at York Minster this evening! 🎼
Piece of Taverner at @YorkMinChoir evensong I don’t think I’ve seen since studying it for my A Level music syllabus…which was c. 23 years ago 🤯
