ALT We have made the decision to end our activities on X. At EJF, human rights, justice, science, facts and transparency underpin everything we do. We work to protect the natural world, defend our basic human right to a secure environment, and provide a platform for the voices of the world’s most marginalised people. We believe that these values are central to meaningful and constructive dialogue and exchanges and that we ensure our online presence reflects our values and goals. We no longer believe that X does so.

ALT Like many other organisations and individuals fighting for basic human rights and environmental security, we have been disturbed by the changes to X that have allowed hate speech and misinformation to proliferate. Without safeguards against discrimination, fake news, and bots, the platform itself has become unusable. It is our responsibility as an environmental and human rights organisation to no longer promote or participate in its use.

ALT By leaving X, we are making it clear that we, as an organisation, firmly reject the promotion of hate, bigotry and false information; that we stand for integrity, inclusivity, open and constructive dialogue and disagreement, and evidence-based decision-making. We believe that now, more than ever, it is important to share our work, real news on urgent environmental issues and stories from the frontlines of the climate and wildlife crises with the world.

ALT “Since taking office, the new government has made swift progress... The European Commission's decision provides an opportunity to build on this momentum and promote good governance in such a vital sector for Senegal’s people and economy.” - Steve Trent, CEO and Founder, Environmental Justice Foundation
