What happens when a student gets closer to the experience instead of only hearing us describe it? I’ve been thinking about this ever since I walked through the ISS in VR. The technology is amazing, but it taught me a bigger lesson about how we teach.
When students notice something on their own, they ask questions we didn't expect. Pretty soon, they need that vocabulary just to figure the problem out. Now, they have a reason to learn it.
You don't need expensive VR headsets to make this happen. Start with a photo. An object. A short video. We just need to give students something worth wondering about.
