Power Isn’t Chosen — It’s Calculated.
When researchers from Bocconi University used math to predict the next Pope — and got it right — I froze.
Not because of faith.
Because of what it said about power itself.
They didn’t study theology.
They studied trust.
They mapped mentorships, alliances, and influence — through the cold precision of network science.
By measuring eigenvector centrality (status), betweenness (information flow), and coalition strength, they revealed the Vatican’s hidden web of power.
The model named Robert Prevost as the frontrunner before he became Pope Leo XIV.
It even exposed a new axis of influence — a rising “soft liberal” network spanning continents.
And here’s what stunned me most:
None of this required AI.
Just data, math, and human intuition.
That model revealed something timeless about leadership:
Power doesn’t rise vertically — it flows horizontally.
Not through titles — but through trust.
If power is networked, we can design how we participate in it.
Here’s what I practice —
✅ Map your relationships. Know who you learn from, and who learns from you.
✅ Strengthen weak ties. The people you rarely talk to often expand your perspective.
✅ Invest in reciprocity. The most influential people give more than they take.
✅ Build visibility around contribution, not noise. Trust compounds through consistency.
In my opinion, this isn’t just about religion or politics — it’s about understanding how systems learn who to trust.
And maybe that’s the real definition of power in the modern age.
Question for you:
Do we still choose our leaders — or have our networks already decided who we’ll follow next?

It’s remarkable just how much schools NEED teachers, yet do a lot of things to make teachers not want to be teachers any more.

When we are exposed to new experiences, we can never remain our previous selves. We are changed forever because we have grown. We must continue to stretch and realize that there is greatness that lies ahead of us.

We will never be able to reach our greatest capacity as a society until we learn that all of humanity is valuable and respect becomes inherent in everything that we do. Far too often, we callously disregard the humanity of our fellow citizens. We must be better.

Teachers should not be assigned duties requiring them to monitor bathrooms or cafeterias. Any non-instructional time should be teacher-directed work time. Honor the work of educators, treat them like professionals, and allow them to actually do their jobs.

There are those who think change should be immediate and results come overnight. They are wrong. Real, transformative change takes time, effort, strategy, and discomfort. It requires us to do things not done before. As a collective, teams must understand this. #TheresMoreWithMPS
