The connection between grunge music and Neil Young doesnât always seem obvious when listening to songs like âHeart of Goldâ or âHarvest Moonâ. But dive into his discography, and it becomes clearer why the Canadian singer-songwriter earned the moniker the âGodfather of Grunge.â
Even heavier rockers like Kirk Hammett from Metallica found great inspiration in the way Young would add grit and grime to his guitar tone. For Hammett, no song encapsulated Youngâs ingenuity with grunge quite like his 1969 track, âCinnamon Girlâ.

GB POLITICS STATEMENT ON THE PROPOSED BAN OF X IN THE UK
Over the past 24 hours, it has become clear that the UK government is considering measures that could lead to a ban on X (formerly Twitter) in the United Kingdom. At GB Politics, we have built a community of nearly 75,000 followers on this platform and established ourselves as a trusted independent news source. The reports of a potential ban are therefore extremely concerning.
The government has cited concerns over Grok, Xâs built-in AI, which has been used by some to generate inappropriate and non-consensual sexualised images, including digitally altering photographs to remove clothing or place individuals in sexualised poses. We strongly oppose such misuse and welcome the steps X has already taken to restrict and improve safeguards around this feature. We urge further urgent action to prevent abuse.
However, this issue is not unique to X. Similar capabilities exist on other widely used AI platforms, such as ChatGPT and Gemini, yet the government is not pursuing bans against those services. This selective focus raises serious questions and appears to be a clear attempt to restrict access to independent and alternative media. X remains one of the few major platforms where news and commentary that hold the government to account can thrive freely.
The entire team at GB Politics firmly opposes any potential ban on X. We call on other independent news outlets, creators, and the British public to join us in resisting this threat to free expression and open discourse.
Sincerely,
Charlie Simpson
Director, GB Politics
