Did you know the practice of intercropping isn't new? To Indigenous Peoples across North America, the tradition of the "three sisters" is an intercrop of corn, beans, and squash planted together for the collective benefit of all three: Corn🌽Support Beans🫘Nitrogen-fixing Squash🎃Ground cover + conserves moisture #SoilHealth #OntAg

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who lost their lives and the survivors of residential schools. We also acknowledge and recognize the ongoing impacts residential schools have on Indigenous communities today and every day. The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority and its staff live, work, and play on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabek (Ah-nish-i-na-bek), Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-no-show-nee), Lūnaapéewak (Len-ah-pay-wuk), and Chonnonton (Chun-ongk-ton) Nations. We are grateful for the relationships and Traditional Knowledge local Indigenous communities have shared with us and continue to share with us as we work towards a healthy and sustainable natural environment in the St. Clair Region. We encourage our watershed residents to reflect on the importance of this day and how they can participate in the reconciliation process. 🧡

We had a great turnout at this year’s end-of-season Ipperwash Beach Cleanup! 🏖 Around 25 volunteers spent a beautiful morning picking up garbage over nearly 3 km and over 38 acres of the Ipperwash Beach sand dunes. We found everything from small plastics and firework remnants to gold coins, a toy gun, and discarded fishing lures. 👏 A huge thank you to the regular and weekly volunteers who work hard all season to keep the beach clean. Without them, MUCH more garbage would have been collected! Thanks also to @LambtonShores for taking care of garbage disposal, the Ipperwash Beach Club for rewarding our volunteers with a delicious ice cream treat 🍦, and to everyone who helped spread the news about this annual event! #IpperwashBeach #BeachCleanup #LambtonShores See less
