Umayasumi~ 🐴🤎 Today's Horse of the Day is Dantsu Flame! He is sired by Brian's Time (dam: Inter Pyrenees), the same horse who sired prominent Japanese race horses such as Narita Brian, Mayano Top Gun, Furioso, Tanino Gimlet, etc. The crown name Dantsu (ダンツ) is a traditional Japanese hand-made carpet (Ako Dantsu, Nabeshima Dantsu, etc.). It was said that the owner chose this crown name because he bought one of these carpets when he first became a horse owner. Dantsu Flame was a prominent member of the 2001 Generation of Japanese racehorses and frequently competed against top-tier horses like Jungle Pocket, Agnes Tachyon, Manhattan Cafe, etc. He won his first graded race, the 2001 Arlington Cup (G3) with the legendary jockey Yutaka Take. From then on, he gained a reputation for his strong performances, often finishing second in major G1 races, including the 2001 Satsuki Sho, the 2001 Japanese Derby, and the 2002 Yasuda Kinen. He finally won the highest graded race of Thoroughbred horse racing at the 2002 Takarazuka Kinen (G1). After Dantsu Flame's retirement, he became a riding horse and helped shaped jockeys at the NAR Education Center. (There was a tweet I made yesterday about Tosaki Keita-san; this was an error. Tosaki Keita-san graduated at the NAR Education Center in 1998. Dantsu Flame retired and moved in to the center in 2005.) Dantsu Flame may not have kids of his own, but in a way, you can say those jockeys he helped train are his "kids." He is a special horse that paved the next generation of keiba in his own horsie way, and Dantsu Flame's flame will shine ever so brightly.
