Why we need all contact details
In this video, I address the issue of providing accurate contact details for all relevant parties when appointing a forensic investigator: youtu.be/j-SRZScCMuA
Core message:
When a client appoints us to investigate a collision, timely access to key people is essential. Too often, we receive the case details but not the contacts for those directly involved with the evidence—such as the person holding the vehicle, the operations manager, or the towing company. This causes unnecessary delays: calls go unanswered, messages are relayed through intermediaries, and by the time the right person is reached, the opportunity to inspect or preserve evidence may already be lost. To conduct an efficient and defensible investigation, we need direct contact details for every person managing, moving, or controlling the evidence—vehicles, documents, or data. This includes anyone responsible for storage, access, or coordination. Having this information upfront prevents wasted time, ensures immediate field action, and maintains evidentiary integrity. A simple phone number or point of contact can be the difference between retrieving critical proof or losing it permanently.
Take-away:
Always provide full, accurate contact details for everyone directly connected to the crash evidence. Direct communication saves time, preserves facts, and strengthens the overall credibility of your investigation.

Stan’s Law #7: If It Wasn’t Photographed, It Didn’t Exist.
Your report starts with proof, not promises. Let me frame it right. Picture. Prove. Protect.
A thousand words won’t replace one missing photograph. Visual documentation builds credibility and protects against distortion. I capture scenes so that your case stands on images, not imagination. What’s unrecorded is unprovable—so make the camera your first witness.

Chain of Custody Chaos
You swore that evidence was secure—until metadata proved otherwise. But hey, it is what it is. Next time - talk to me first.
Authenticity lives and dies in the chain of custody. If you can’t prove who touched the evidence, when, or how—it’s worthless. I build digital and physical audit trails that are unbreakable, verifiable, and admissible. Metadata is your friend when you manage it right. Let’s make your evidence traceable from capture to courtroom.

Latin: In Limine.
Meaning: At the threshold.
Short Explanation: A pretrial motion to exclude evidence.
Long Explanation: Lawyers use motions in limine to prevent prejudicial or irrelevant information from reaching the jury. It’s a key strategic move before trials begin.

Scientific Method Validations
Description: Verification that investigative approaches, calculations, and conclusions follow recognized scientific methodology—hypothesis, testing, reproducibility, and peer recognition.
Example Case: Opposing counsel claims to have “reconstructed” speed using an unverified software plug-in. Our validation review shows absence of calibration and error analysis, discrediting the result.
Who It’s For: Attorneys, experts, or insurers seeking assurance that findings meet admissibility standards.
What It Entails: Audit of analytical workflow, measurement uncertainty evaluation, and citation of supporting literature or standards.
Expected Outcome: Confirmed methodological soundness or identification of deficiencies before presentation in deposition or trial.

Stan’s Law #6: Skid Marks Don’t Lie — People Do.
Let physics testify for you. I’ll translate. Trust the Physics.
Witnesses argue; friction doesn’t. Skid marks reveal reaction, speed, and sequence without bias. I analyze physics, not opinions. Let the road speak for you through measurable data that withstands every challenge. Science never lies—it just needs interpretation.

I saw this question on Facebook, so I decided to share my thoughts, since I routinely testify as a Court Expert on Lighting.
Why would we go from lights that are more energy efficient, that offer better color rendering index (CRI), that offer better Scotopic/Photopic Ratio (S/P), that preserve true colors for evidence in crimes, that last hundreds of times longer, and that have no negative effect on visibility for something "old?"
Think about it...
High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights look “warmer,” but they underperform LEDs in every operational category that matters for safety, visibility, and evidence.
Using a typical 400 W HPS vs a 35 W LED luminaire:
• Cost at sale: HPS is cheaper upfront, but LEDs have no lamp/gear replacement cycles. Lifecycle cost is significantly lower with LED.
• Luminous flux: HPS emits more raw lumens, but much is wasted. LEDs direct light precisely onto the roadway, producing higher usable illumination with far less power.
• Energy efficiency: HPS converts large amounts of energy into heat and non-visible wavelengths. LEDs convert a greater portion into visible, useful light.
• Color rendering: HPS has a CRI of ~20, making objects appear monochromatic. LEDs (CRI ~70–90) allow accurate color perception, improving driver recognition and forensic evidence value.
• Crime and CCTV: HPS severely distorts colors, limiting suspect and vehicle identification. LEDs record true colors, improving evidentiary reliability.
• Scotopic/Photopic ratio: HPS poorly stimulates low-light (rod) vision. LEDs produce light that enhances perceived brightness and peripheral visibility, improving night-time hazard detection.
• Visual comfort: LEDs provide better uniformity and contrast when properly engineered, reducing glare fatigue and improving scene comprehension.
• Contrast and threat detection: HPS suppresses contrast; LEDs enhance it, enabling faster recognition of pedestrians, animals, and obstacles.
• Impact on color-blind or night-blind users: Narrow-spectrum HPS light worsens functional impairment. Broad-spectrum LED improves contrast and low-light support.
Despite nostalgic preference for the amber look, LEDs deliver safer roads, better evidence quality, and dramatically lower operating costs.
Deposition Disaster
Your expert’s first deposition turned into their last. Preparation? None. Coaching? Zero. But hey, it is what it is. Next time - talk to me first.
Depositions aren’t conversations—they’re combat. Every question is a trap, every hesitation a weakness. I train experts to handle complex technical cross-examinations with clarity, authority, and control. A prepared witness is unshakable; an unprepared one is unforgettable—for the wrong reasons. Let’s ensure your expert testifies with precision, not panic.

What the ACTUAL FUCK, Britain?

Why we need all case details
In this video, I address the issue of providing essential case details when requesting a forensic collision investigation: youtu.be/SpYkgEaotLM
Core message:
When an accident occurs, time and accuracy are critical. Even if the official accident report form isn’t yet available, investigators still need fundamental details immediately to determine the viability of an investigation. These include the date, time, location, vehicles involved, and the directions of travel. Without this information, there’s no way to assess whether evidence still exists, whether vehicles can or should be examined, or whether environmental traces remain recoverable. Many clients underestimate how quickly key evidence disappears—from vehicle repairs and towed vehicles to changing road conditions. The longer the delay, the weaker the evidence chain becomes. Simply put, without knowing the “who, what, when, where, and how,” a proper investigation cannot even begin. Sharing accurate, basic information from the start allows us to deploy effectively, preserve evidence, and construct a fact-based forensic analysis while data is still fresh and defensible.
Take-away:
Facts fade fast. Immediate, accurate basic details—date, time, location, vehicles, and directions—are the foundation of every valid investigation. Without them, even the best experts can’t build a credible case.
