Here’s a hot take. How about a personal assistant you DON’T chat with.
Experimenting with this idea on my own hand rolled personal assistant where I just interact through buttons.
Eg. It reads a convo on whatsapp about me agreeing to meet X at 730PM. Assistant surfaces a proposal to send meeting invite to me and X for 730PM. All I do is press a button.
I can imagine a ton more use cases like this.
Something I’ve thought deeply about is the future of work and how much AI will change things. Specifically will there even be work?
I’m not an economist nor a researcher. I’m just some guy with opinions, so copious amounts of salt please.
The main thing that shapes my thinking, unoriginally as I’ve read and watched lots on this topic, is the whole concept of Jevon’s paradox (not really a paradox).
It’s saying that when a scarce thing becomes more common, the more we’ll use it.
The classic example is coal and steam engines, once it became more common more uses of coal came up and we started using more of it.
Work I think is similar in general where as humans there are certain things that we will decide needs to be worked on and that ceiling is generally higher than current supply or economics would necessitate.
Let’s take the case of marketing work.
Before AI lets say there’s X people in the world who are job titled marketers who do marketing things.
You’d assume correctly that these people work in companies that are trying to do marketing and see a financial benefit in doing marketing to grow their revenue, brand, etc.
However there are many more entities (used intentionally here to be more encompassing) that require the outcome of a marketing activity that they either do themselves or just choose not to do because it is economically not viable.
When the actual work of marketing goes down per unit of time and it becomes more economically viable then that should result in more people having marketing things done for them.
Using an extreme example, imagine a mom & pop shop (eg a sari sari store). I presume that there are 0 of those today that have a marketing manager on the payroll.
It makes zero sense.
But imagine if they could get the output of a marketing activity done for them to increase awareness that they have this product in stock or that they have a sale or that they are in this corner or that they have a new corner in another street, wouldn’t that have inherent value?
That’s a viable marketing use case that can exist in this world if the economics make sense and that’s where AI is changing the economics.
The friction or inconsistency we see today with layoffs, etc. is that the way the entire job market is set up is for a world that’s fixed.
People are employed full time with a certain job title at X.
That doesn’t play well when demand is dynamic and is going up.
Why only fish in one pond when new ponds are forming around you? Why only drive for Grab or Uber or Gojek when you can tap into the demand from all of them?
Which brings me to the future of work point. I think work will be more flexible because demand is going to be a lot more dynamic. Whether you call that fractional, part-timing, moonlighting, doesn’t matter.
If you are in a field where demand was constrained by economics and you believe that AI changes that then you need to be flexible to be able to capture that demand.
Agents are super useful for work, but what about life? Life isn't on slack. Life isn't on gdrive.
Life is on your phone. Your phone number specifically. What if an agent can handle that for you?
That's what we're building at gather.

I used Arc for years. Moved to Dia and immediately missed one thing: open a new window and your tabs are just there.
No other browser does that. So I built it.
Tabtwinsy mirrors your tabs AND tab groups across every window. Free, no account, nothing leaves your machine.
Long-time Arc user. Tried Dia (@diabrowser) on my new MacBook, loved it, but it can't sync tabs across windows. Almost no browser does, so I built it: Tab Sync mirrors tabs + groups live across every window. Might put it on the Chrome Web Store. cc @browsercompany 👇

Shipped my second app! As a kid drawing was my escape. Now my son loves drawing just as much that’s why I built an app to encourage it further!

I see the evolution of AI tools as the following.
Stage 1 - Simple auto complete or auto suggest
Stage 2 - Generation of an output
Stage 3 - Generation of an output that is deterministically malleable
If you generate code, you can go in the IDE and edit it yourself manually. That’s deterministic. You change the value from X to Y.

For 40 years the file browser hasn’t changed.
Today, we’re launching with $8 million in seed funding to rebuild the file browser into something more intelligent, searchable, and delightful.
The world is in the middle of a data explosion. We’re generating and using more files than ever, but the apps we’re using to manage our files don’t even understand them.
It’s time for file browsers to become useful. When you search for “dog”, it should show you content with dogs in it, not just files with “dog” in the name! When you want to edit, convert, summarize, or organize a file, your browser should do that, too.
Your files tell the story of your life, but when you need a specific one, you usually can’t even find it anymore. Why can’t your file browser find it for you, or cross-reference it when you have a question? Prompting can give an LLM a million tokens of context. With Poly, you can give it the next trillion.
As long as we can afford it, all new users receive 100GB of free cloud storage. We can’t wait for you to try it out!
