My pleasantly demented patient who has no idea who I am says “Have a good day baby, love you” every morning when I leave his room and it’s kind of the best part of my day.
My “tiny” twins had their sophomore Homecoming dance tonight. You’d never know it, but I’m actually really tall. 😆
8yo was asking me about hippies this morning.
“They started in the 60s, right?”
“Yes, and they were popular into the 70s.”
“Were hippies around in the 80s, when you were born?”
“No, not really.”
😳 “They all DIED?!?”
🤣🤣🤣
My 16yo son fractured his fibula and waited three days to tell me about it/ask if we should get x-rays, this is how much my kids respect the fact that I am a doctor. 😅
I got heavily invested in giant pumpkin/squash growing TikTok this year, in case anybody was curious about my mental state.
Ok but if I ever get admitted to my own hospital, I have given strict instructions to my colleagues that I am to be admitted to the peds floor. Biggest rooms, nicest nurses, best snacks.
My program has helped me develop my own OB panel and all of my patients are Spanish-speaking, and they’ve starting sending friends to our clinic to ask for me specifically and I just 🥹🥰
Told the 8 year old, who kept coming in my room while I was trying to work: “You stayed out for all of three minutes that time.”
8yo: “Ooh, that’s my high score!” 🤣
I guess I’m weird, but this seems so fun to me and I would absolutely pay for this if I had a free weekend and it wasn’t too far away. But I love going to weddings and I will take any excuse to get dressed up.
A weird thought I had today: sometimes I’m happy when my teens act kind of selfish. I never got to do that growing up, never had a safe space where I got to act like the center of the universe. So while I’m trying to raise them to be kind and considerate, them occasionally…
Me when nobody pays attention to my dumb little posts: 😢
Me when too many people pay attention to my dumb little posts: 😩🙁😳😭😣☹️😫😬😧🥴🫣😶🌫️
Once my patients hit 80 I tell them they’re “playing with house money” and we can do or not do pretty much whatever they want health-wise.
I’m using Zotero for the first time to generate a bibliography, and Y’ALL. These kids today have it way too easy. Back in my day we were using style guides and index cards.
Took my 19yo to get his first tattoo today, because parenting is just a constant experience of doing things you swore you’d never do.
My most annoying trait is that I get obsessed with certain foods and eat almost nothing else for weeks at a time. Sometimes the obsession is something fine and good like sandwiches, or a particular salad. Right now the obsession is fudge brownies. So, not as good.
Someone gave me some really good advice today, so I’m sharing it in case anyone here also needs to hear it:
You should not make yourself smaller just to avoid the discomfort of asking for what you deserve.
I have a clinic patient who has some difficult circumstances and a lot working against her, and she hasn’t always been easy to care for (or nice to me). But I’ve stuck with her. Today I saw her and she looks better than she ever has and is making major strides to change her life.
