COMP ran 39% on Coinbase from $20.97 late Monday to $29.15 this morning, and most of the top was gone within about 15 minutes.
It got through $27.11 just before 10. That was the late-September high and the ceiling on everything since June. The spike peaked at 10:10 Pacific, and by 10:20 it was trading under $27 again.
Since 11, the hourly candles have all closed between $25.58 and $26.70. Coinbase traded about 4.7x a normal day's COMP in the last 24 hours, and nobody has turned up a reason for it, no announcement and no governance vote.
The last time COMP traded above $29 was April 18, and that day closed at $25.47. It's around $25.65 now. A 4H close back over $27.11 is what would make today look different from that one.
in france, parking your gains in usdc is about to count as cashing out
an amendment that passed 38 to 37 on october 16 ends the tax deferral on crypto swaps into stablecoins from january 1
only 100 of the assembly's 577 deputies took part, and 25 of those abstained
swap €10,000 of gains into usdc and you'd owe about €3,140 at the 31.4% flat rate, with nothing in your bank to pay it from
the government opposed it, the final vote moved to november 3, and the senate can still cut it
if your take-profit plan in france is a swap into a stablecoin, it has about ten weeks left before that swap gets taxed
Most paper accounts I've seen people run their AI bots on book every fill at zero cost. The agent buys, sells, and the log looks clean.
I ran a plain breakout rule on Coinbase's hourly bars for BTC, ETH and SOL over the last 50 days. Buy when the hourly close tops the high of the last 24 hours, sell 12 hours later. 64 trades, and with no fees all three coins finished a little green.
Then I charged Kraken Pro's taker fee at the $10K volume tier, 0.38% on the way in and again on the way out. All three flipped to somewhere between 11% and 15% red. Winning trades dropped from 28 to 17, because a lot of the wins were smaller than the round trip.
My paper account charges the fee before the agent gets to call anything a win.
btc on paper: +2.6% fee-free, -14.6% after
median trade was -0.3% before any fee
eth won 9 of 17 on paper, 4 after fees
at the $0 tier (0.80% taker) it's -23% to -30%
A week inside a $100 to $109 range, and the biggest volume in almost a month still couldn't get Solana out of it.
The buying came this morning, with more SOL changing hands on Coinbase in one hour than in any hour since September 25. It topped at $108.26, short of last Tuesday's $108.92, which has been the ceiling all week.
Within about an hour it had sold back to $104.88, below where that big hour opened. Since then it has sat in the middle, every hourly close between $105.76 and $106.65.
That much volume failing to reach the top of a range tells me the range is still in charge. I'm not reading anything into the middle of it.
DOOD doubled on Coinbase in about 16 hours. $0.001317 last night, $0.002634 at 10:05 this morning, after two weeks of sliding lower on almost no volume.
The climb started around 2am, but the real push came after 8. By 9:55 it was through the early-September high at $0.00238, the top of everything since June, and the high was a price it hadn't seen since late May. More than half of the last 30 days of Coinbase volume traded in the last 24 hours.
It has cooled to around $0.00243. The 11am dip stopped at $0.00232, just under that September line.
A double this fast gets tested, and the test is $0.00238. If hourly closes keep holding above it, this is more than a one-morning pop. Back under $0.00232 and I'd stop treating it as anything but a spike.
A lot of AI catalyst scans have a social feed bolted on now, and the easiest piece to wire up is a post counter. Mentions double, the coin gets flagged.
I lined up a week of hourly X post counts for eight big coins against Coinbase hourly candles. In the 36 hours where posting ran at double the prior day's pace or more, price typically moved about what it moves in any ordinary hour. XRP had a stretch at a couple hundred times its usual post count and barely budged.
The hour that actually moved was quiet. Last Thursday morning was the biggest price hour of the week for five of these coins, and HYPE drew less than an eighth of the posts it got on Saturday night, when nothing much happened.
My scan still counts posts. A spike on its own just doesn't get read first anymore.
Woke up to most of the big coins green from midnight, SUI out front, and that little voice started in right away about getting in before it runs.
I went back through the last month to see what that voice is worth. Ten of the biggest coins on Coinbase, checked every morning at 7. When one of them had climbed between 1% and 2% overnight, it was lower at midnight than at 7am 25 times out of 33.
The bigger overnight runs were a different story, and so were the red mornings. It's the polite green one that kept getting faded, big enough to feel like you missed something and too small to mean much.
None of that tells me what today does. It just says the 7am itch had a pretty bad month.
Twenty cents has been the ceiling on ARB for most of October. Since Oct 7, no hour on Coinbase has closed above $0.2013, and three separate pushes stalled between $0.2022 and $0.2029.
Underneath, the floor kept stepping up: $0.1614 on Oct 8, $0.1693 on Oct 14, $0.1748 on Sunday.
Tonight it poked through. A five-minute candle tagged $0.21 on Coinbase just before 8pm Pacific, but Kraken's high for the day is $0.2036, and within 20 minutes ARB had slipped back under $0.20. It's been chopping right around there since.
A wick on one venue doesn't move me much. A 4-hour close over $0.203 would, and that's the only version of tonight I'd take seriously.
The case people make for HYPE is usually the revenue, not the chart. At least revenue is something you can look up.
I looked it up. The week it topped near $98 on Coinbase, the exchange behind it booked about $19.9 million in revenue. This past week it was closer to $16 million, roughly a fifth less.
HYPE is sitting about a fifth under that top too.
It's tempting to treat the revenue as a floor under the price, something that holds while the chart wobbles. From that week to this one, it slid by almost exactly the same amount. If the revenue is why you own it, it's been telling you the same thing the price has.
its own exchange traded ~$279m of it in 24h
coinbase spot did ~$15m
september's ~$74m was the best month since last november

PUMP made six straight lower daily highs on Coinbase after Oct 12's $0.00603, and the last of them came with Sunday's flush to $0.00383.
That low wiped out the whole late-September run. $0.00383 is right where PUMP started that leg on Sep 25, before it climbed 78% into the Oct 5 top at $0.00682.
Today's candle broke the streak. A pop around 3pm Pacific reached $0.004586, the first daily high above the day before since Oct 12. It still stopped short of Friday night's $0.00469 and is back near $0.00445.
One higher day doesn't fix a week of lower ones. Over $0.00469 is where I'd start treating the bounce as more than a breather.
