There's been a lot of importance placed on bat speed over the last few years, so it was interesting to hear Max Schuemann talk about how he's improved his (68.6 mph in 2025 ➡️ 70.4 mph in 2026) with a tool called TheStack.
Schuemann is also the latest #Yankees player to buy into torpedo bats. While he's got a small sample size this year, his xwOBA, Hard-Hit%, Barrel%, Average Launch Angle and Whiff% have all improved.

Max Schuemann, the #Yankees' only source of offense on Saturday, has emerged as a useful utilityman despite infrequent opportunities.
He said new tools have helped him take advantage of his limited playing time, including one designed to improve his bat speed.
More on what Schuemann has changed, how he "works his ass off" to stay ready, and his bravado:

Brendan Donovan is having his best season yet.
He’s locked in on a great mindset:
“Warm up to hit — don’t hit to warm up.”
- He trains movement patterns to gain speed without losing the swing that makes him elite

I also included quasi-best-fit line, which you can play around with as more data comes in. This line in vertex form (which is much much much easier to understand than off-putting quadratic):

PSA: Here at TheStack System… we don’t guess.
There is a clear relationship between program adherence and speed gains. Tracking every swing (and speed gains) from ~45,000 Stackers allows us to compare large groups that are matched for other characteristics (age, sex, handicap, starting speed, number of completed programs, etc). We can then compare 100 stackers that adhere to 100 that don’t rest long enough.
The rest times are not arbitrary.
On a scale of 1 to 10, it would be 9.5.
