German Chancellor Merz: My biggest concern is Russia's underestimated impact on European societies. Russia is on the way to destabilise the entire political order of Europe. Many people in Germany underestimate this threat, and the war in Ukraine is only part of it. 1/

It is still just so extraordinary to me that the government basically loan sharked an entire generation of students. If they’d outsourced it to Wonga, the outcomes wouldn’t have been much worse

The UK Covid-19 Inquiry published its report into care today. Our loved ones were failed by a Government that abandoned them and left them to die. Action must be taken now to prevent a tragedy like this happening again. Here is our statement:

When Matt Hancock said that the government had put a “protective ring around care homes from the very start” we all knew it was not true. The Covid Inquiry has now backed this up criticising his claim as "unfounded". bbc.co.uk/news/live/cmy4xk1d…

More than 43,000 deaths involving Covid were recorded in UK care homes between March 2020 and July 2022. 2/10

The Covid Inquiry’s Module 6 report is devastating. Its central conclusion: adult social care was treated as “something of an afterthought”, while “protecting the NHS” sometimes came at the expense of people receiving and providing care. 1/10

“With repeated infections, the virus can set off symptoms before enough viral load builds up to turn a rapid test positive. As a result, people who test for Covid too early may have a false negative result. Doctors recommend taking a second test 48 hours later.”

under a patriarchal lens, c*vid is an economic and political gender-based health issue that men permit, absolving themselves of personal and structural responsibility through laissez-faire participation, relocating health burdens to domestic and marginalized spaces

Current NHS policy allows Covid positive patients to attend Oncology Clinics, which are generally beside Oncology treatment areas. Staff don’t have to test or mask. Oncology wards the same. Infection kills in many ways, but “since Covid” is has been forgotten as denial has set in
Infection is the second biggest killer of cancer patients. So why is the Government not addressing it? Infection is mentioned once in their 86-page cancer plan. The Government need to urgently consider infection if they are serious about improving outcomes.

Of all the people who could cast some light on this subject, BBC Newsnight chose…Putin’s former spokesman?
"It's a direct lie... Either Prime Minister Burnham is lying, or the intelligence service of Great Britain." Former Putin spokesperson Sergei Markov says that the PM's claim that Russia interfered in the 2016 Brexit referendum is "absolutely a clear lie." #Newsnight

On the day after @peterjukes & I broke the story of Arron Banks’s covert meetings with the Russian ambassador, I was invited onto @BBCr4today to discuss it. Big news! Finally the chance to break through to a BBC audience. Only the interview was cancelled because they needed ‘someone from the other side’ & the Russian ambassador wasn’t available. Facts don’t have a side. It meant the BBC never covered the story. And here we are..

So this is obviously the official pushback to the line on Russian interference & it’s the same nonsense that Boris Johnson spouted: ‘no successful interference’ is utterly meaningless. There’s never been any investigation & no definition of what ‘success’ means.
Andy Burnham said yesterday that it was clear after he arrived in No 10 that Russia had interfered in Brexit referendum - but didn’t say whether it had affected the result of 2016 vote. Answer below 👇

It’s incredible how many Reform supporting gammons are scoffing at the statement that there was Russian interference in Brexit when Reform’s Nathan Gill was literally sent to prison for taking Russian bribes. 👀

The story is bigger than some petty media infighting. It caused me extreme stress & anxiety over years but it established key facts that are now on the record. That most of the UK press failed to report on them let alone understand them is its own story. theguardian.com/uk-news/comm…

It’s dishonest & embarrassing to pretend I don’t exist & that Banks didn’t sue me as a result of this work. It contributes to the ongoing silence that’s accompanied this story for a decade. But most of all, it insults the readers. 2/

Hope @carolecadwalla has kept all those posts where she described the Russian interference in Brexit again and again. Only to be dismissed as a mad witch by most of the main stream media, or simply ignored, certainly by the BBC. She so wasn’t. #Cassandra

🚨 In March 2022, just weeks after Putin invaded Ukraine, Britain’s former defence attache in Moscow wrote an extraordinary letter. Air Commodore Carl Scott said that while serving in Moscow from 2011–2016, Britain repeatedly reported the direction Putin was taking: massive rearmament, militarisation of society, propaganda, repression and preparation for conflict. 👀 The warnings were there. 🔥 And this is the line that should still haunt British politics: “Our withdrawal from the EU… greatly emboldened those in Moscow.” Scott also condemned Britain’s willingness to accommodate Russian wealth, describing London as a safe haven for “corrupt, and corrupting, wealth”. Brexit fractured one of Putin’s principal strategic adversaries, weakened Britain’s influence in Europe and, according to a man who had watched the Kremlin at close quarters, emboldened Moscow. ✅ We were warned about Putin. ✔️ We were warned about Russian money. ☑️ And we were warned about what weakening European unity would mean. The question Britain still hasn’t properly confronted is: why did we refuse to listen?
Extraordinary letter in @ft from former UK defence attaché at Moscow embassy - we warned you about Putin but you listened to the City instead
