I think a mind is closest to what is meant by soul.
Soul is not a useful distinction. It was introduced by spiritual hustlers.
I thought soul is uniqueness, individuality of a mind. But that is redundant. Having a mind includes moving in your own peculiar way.
A major function of a mind is sensing. Most people barely have a mind, if any.
The fact that empathy is a load on a brain is just a mechanical symptom of that.
